What I like best about my sport: “Being out there
with my friends. I’ve been out there for four years, and
we’ve been through a lot together. I like the reward of
all the hard work we’ve put in, and the encouragement
from our coaches to play to the best of
our ability.”
Coach’s Comment: “Cauy is a
defensive leader and gives a
continuous effort. Cauy hardly
ever comes off the field and
continues to perform at a
high level.”

down early in the third, the
Tigers gained momentum,
and the teams tied the score
several times. Monument/
Dayville tied it 22-22, then
Grant Union pushed for
the win with server Baylee
Combs closing out the set.
The Tigers were down
in the middle of the fourth,
when Tiger Aubrey Bowlus
spiked the ball and her team-
mate Kyla Emerson went on
a six-serve run to narrow the
gap 18-21. Monument/Day-
ville came as close as 20-22,
then Grant Union skipped
ahead for a four-point win.
“Monument/Dayville was
scrappy,” said Grant Union
coach Rhonda McCumber.
“They played tough on of-
fense and defense. We strug-
gled at the beginning with
their tips.”
She said as the night con-
tinued, her team improved
on defending the Tiger tip.
“We served tough all
night,” she added. “Shaine
Madden was on fire and
Rylee Browning served
well.”
McCumber said she was
proud of her team for going
up against a varsity team and
winning.
“We won a lot of the long
rallies, which is something
we’ve been working on,” she
added.
Tiger coach Kristi Emer-
son also said she was proud
