A Celebration of Life was held on Saturday September 17 th at 2:00 PM at the Cornerstone Christian Church in John Day. Smiling. Fun loving. Generous. Helpful. Capable. Hard working. These are just some of the words that describe our Justin Anthony Baker. With his warm personality, Justin touched lives everywhere he went and there are endless stories of how his smile and witty humor created memories to last a lifetime. The first story that was shared while we have been talking about Justin’s life the last couple of days came from his big brother Kodi remembering when he ran out of toilet paper and Justin gave him Clorox bleach pads with lemon scent—which he used and regretted. Justin was born December 19, 1999 to Karrie Baker. His short life was a full life and included his f avorite times with brother Kodi Fisher, sisters Natalie and Nicole King and his mom and dad, Justin and Karr ie King Baker. He also cherished times with his grandparents Bill and Kimberly Topham, Roger and Karen Gais ford, and Bob and Kay King. Justin lived most of his 16 years in the Caldwell and Middleton, Idaho area. Just this August, the f amily moved to this warm, welcoming community of John Day where he was eager to spend the rest of his high school career playing football, participating in FFA and learning to weld. Justin loved the outdoors, riding 4 wheelers and fishing-especially with his dad. Elk hunting in Rig gins, Idaho was his favorite destination. He was very artistic and loved to write music and add to his notebooks of drawings. He was known to have a constant supply of random electrical cords—if you needed it, he pro bably had it. Justin was adventurous in spirit, always willing to try new things including new foods. His latest favorite food was ahi tuna. He looked forward to going on adventures in France and Italy someday. Justin was an old soul and he thought of others first. His mom said his whole life he was willing to stand alone when it meant standing for the right thing and doing something that would help others. He worked har d and went above and beyond in all that he did. Our hearts will never be the same. We are all thankful for the time that we had with Justin Baker in our lives and the good memories he has left us with. Grimsley moved to Burns with her mother, Marie Wallan, and stepfather, Kenneth Wallan. In high school, she worked at the Welcome Drug Store soda fountain. She loved to roller skate. One night at the rink, she met a handsome young man from the CCC camp at the Gap Ranch. It was love at fi rst sight, and so she married H.T. “Grimey” Grimsley. They had two wonderful sons, Kenneth and Thomas. In 1962, they bought the John Day Dairy in John Day. They ran this as a family business until 1972. Grimey then became the athletic bus driver until his death in 1976. Shortly after, Ilah began working at the Blue Mountain Nursing Home, caring for the guests there. Later in life, when her eyesight failed, she moved to Portland so her son, Kenneth, could look after her. This responsibility was shared by her other son, Tom, who was caretaker at differ- ent times. He moved in with her after Kenneth’s death in Jan- uary of 2014. She passed away after a short stay at an assisted living center in Oregon City. Grimsley had a good life. She worked hard at every job she had. She was a fun-loving person who cared about the people around her. She had a kind word for all. She loved company, but would remark that at her house the guests only got “a bed and blanket” as she wasn’t a cook. Her subtle jokes and sense of humor will be missed. She is survived by her son, Tom, of Idaho, nephews, niec- es, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends all over the country. At her request, there will be no services.
