News Blue Mountain Eagle Wednesday, June 15, 2016 A9 Canyon City relives ’62 Days Blue Mountain Eagle CANYON CITY — The ’62 Days was as lively as ever last weekend, with plenty of activities for adults and children. A highlight of the event, which celebrates the dis- covery of gold on June 8, 1862, was Saturday’s pa- rade, which included many entries and a big crowd of spectators. Behind the scenes, orga- nizing all the festivities, was the Whiskey Gulch Gang. Here are the results: Commercial division — First place: Pioneer Feed; second place: Oregon Trail Heavy Haul; third place: John Day Polaris. Schools and organiza- tions — First place: For- est Access for All; second place: John Day Volunteer and Rural Fire Department. Horse-drawn vehicles — First place: Rusty Clark driving grand marshal Mary Ellen Brooks. Classic vehicles — First place: Ron Phillips, 1929 Model A; second place: Lee Turner, 1964 Cadillac. Decorated vehicles — Eagle photos/Angel Carpenter Winning Saturday’s ’62 Days Parade sweepstakes, riding for Russell’s Meats, are Kevin Rapp, right, Mallory Thomas and Jase Whatley, on the motorcycle, for showing the best representation of the theme “Tell Me About the Good Old Days.” First place, Kirby Bliss. Mounted group — First place, Rocky Top Riders; second place, Strawberry Riders. Derby cars — First place, Tyler Nodine; second place, Steve Patterson. Other — First place, Todd McKinley for sheriff. Best in theme — Rus- sell’s Custom Meats, $100 prize.
