Author draws inspiration from PC history PRAIRIE CITY — Author Jane Nagler, whose writings are inspired by her Prairie City an- cestors, will hold a book sign- ing from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sat- urday, June 11, at the DeWitt Museum in Prairie City. A resident of East Wenatchee, Washington, Na- gler’s fi rst historical novel, “By the River,” published last year, was inspired by her great-grandmother Sarah Ann Manwaring. Her newest novel “Secrets from the Little Red Box” is based on letters Manwar- ing’s youngest daughter kept, which were penned by a min- er named Harry. Nagler writes under the pseudonym Jae Carvel. The author said she’ll bring the box of letters, which were written between 1911-1914, with her to the book signing. The event, organized by the Whiskey Gulch Gang, has been running every year since 1922. over the course of two or three days. Brooks said Canyon City and ’62 Days are pretty spe- cial to her, adding while she usually prefers to take more of a background seat, she is honored to be selected as this year’s grand marshal. “I appreciate the work the committee does to keep ’62 Days alive,” she said. Brooks was the 2012 Grant County Fair parade grand marshal and is also involved with the Timber Truckers Light Parade and the Mt. Vernon Grange, among other community groups.
