Vernon died June 20 at Blue Mountain Care Cen- ter in Prairie City. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 25, at Moon Creek Cemetery west of Mt. Vernon, with 3DVWRU-DFN5HWKHUIRUGRI¿FLDWLQJ Mr. Herburger was born Aug. 1, 1935 in Burns, to Cedric Herburger and Isobelle “Sally” Burnside. He attended elementa- ry school in Ashland and his senior year at Rogue River High School, where he played football, basketball and ran track. He graduated in 1954. He married early and the couple had one daughter, Connie Jo. He later married Carlene Greenwood on July 11, 1961, in Bar- tlesville, Okla. They had a son, Davey, and a daughter, Fonda. In his teen years, he developed an interest in rodeos and soon SUHSDUHGWRHQWHUKLV¿UVWURGHR+HGLGWKLVE\SXWWLQJDERUURZHG bareback rigging on his saddle horse and riding her around the cor- UDO7KLVSDLGRIIZKHQKHHQWHUHGKLV¿UVWURGHRDQGZRQ¿UVWSODFH in Redmond. He had been bitten by the rodeo bug, and he was on his way. Joining the professional ranks, he traveled throughout the nation and went to Brussels, Belgium, with a group of cowboys, to rep- resent the American Cowboy at the World’s Fair in 1958. He also worked on ranches, built fence and was a timber faller. +HZDVDQDYLGRXWGRRUVPDQDQGHQMR\HGKXQWLQJ¿VKLQJDQG taking in the sights and sounds of the woods. He loved his family, friends, gatherings and hanging out at the Silver Spur in Mt. Vernon every morning. He loved living in Oregon. Lawrence John Wolfgram July 16, 1942 – June 12, 2015 Lawrence John Wolfgram, who had been an educator in Grant Coun- ty, died June 12 at his Pendleton home, surrounded by family. He was 72. In 2011 Mr. Wolfgram was diag- nosed with colon cancer and under- went chemotherapy treatments which were successful. Then last March, he was diagnosed with a rarer and more aggressive form of cancer, angiosar- coma. He and his wife Mary, who spent winters in sunny Ar- L]RQDUHWXUQHGWR2UHJRQLQ0D\WRVSHQGKLV¿QDOGD\VDW home. Mr. Wolfgram was born July 16, 1942, to Norman and Norma Wolfgram in Los Angeles, Calif. He grew up on a ranch in Rhame, N.D. Attending high school in Rhame, he was active in sports and met his soul- mate, Mary Nestor. They were wed in 1961. Mr. Wolfgram attended Dickinson State University School of Mines in Rapid City, N.D. and earned a master’s degree in administration from the University of Oregon. The couple and their two children moved to Alaska, where he worked on the Alaskan highway and enjoyed hunting. They moved back to North Dakota to help on the family farm and then moved to Dayville in 1969, where Mr. Wolfgram was the math and science teacher. He held various jobs in the area over the next 45 years, including time as principal and superintendent, but he always came back to the classroom. He was known for his love of hunting and the stories he told about adventures in Alaska and Africa. He also wrote two books about his hunting experiences. He also enjoyed golf, attending the Catholic Church, fellowship with the Knights of Columbus, traveling and spending time with his grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his mother, Norma; son Warren (Stefanie) Wolfgram; daughter Wendy (Denny) Christensen; grandchildren Damian, Terika and Remington; five other grandchildren, five great-grandchil- dren; brother Leonard; sister Lynette; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Recitation of the Rosary was June 16 at Burns Mor- tuary of Pendleton Chapel, and Mass of Christian Buri- al followed on June 17 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Pendleton, with interment at Skyview Memorial Park in Pendleton. Burns Mortuary was in charge of arrangements. Augustia ‘Gussie’ Marie Hester Jan. 3, 1927 – June 18, 2015 Augustia Hester, 88, of Mt. Vernon, died June 18 at Val- ley View Assisted Living Facility in John Day. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 27, at First Christian &KXUFKLQ-RKQ'D\ZLWK3DVWRU$O$OWQRZRI¿FLDWLQJ Mrs. Hester was born Jan. 3, 1927 to Arthur Hester and Cormelia Cooper in Nevada, Mo. She was a welder during World War II, and spent 35 years working at Ardens Ice &UHDP)DFWRU\ODWHUUHQDPHG0D\ÀRZHU,FH&UHDP)DFWRU\ She retired in February 1982. 6KHORYHG¿VKLQJFDPSLQJERZOLQJDQG¿QGLQJWZLVWHG tree roots or limbs and then cleaning and polishing them. She also enjoyed attending First Christian Church. Survivors include sister-in-law, Phyllis “Bonnie” Hester of Mt. Vernon; nephew, John Hester; nieces, Julie Hester, Sylvia Hester, Virginia Reiner, Darlene Davis and Loretta Newton; and several other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her four brothers; Bill, Adin, James and Eddie; and sisters, Gracie and Kathryn. Dolores Elaine Hinton Jan. 10, 1929 – June 15, 2015 Dolores Elaine Hinton died June 15 in Pendleton. She was 86. She was born to Lewis and Grace Lyon in Lewiston, Idaho, on Jan. 10, 1929, one of 15 children. She was raised and attend- ed school in Leavenworth, Wash. In 1948, she met and married Cleve +LQWRQDQGWKH\VSHQWWKHLU¿UVW\HDUV at the Pilot Rock Lumber camp on the John Day River before moving to Ukiah. In 1965 they moved to Boardman, and she joined her husband on construction jobs all over the Northwest. They lived in $ODVNDIRU¿YH\HDUV Returning in 1980, they settled at the Hinton homestead ranch outside of Dale. Mrs. Hinton was community-minded and was involved in many groups. She loved to dance, laugh, and have fun. She was preceded in death by her par- ents and her husband’s parents, George and Ferne Hinton, and all of her siblings. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughters, Georgia (Norm) Burnett, Judy Wilson, and Kathy (Dave) Mosteit; grandchildren, Brian (Kristi) Buchanan, Chris (Angela) Wolf, Kasey (Tim) Tekippe, Mathew (Melissa) Wilson, Jason (Lena) Buchanan, Ingrid (Bryant) Wilson, Chris Burnett, Jenny Massey, Dustin and Hailey Mosteit, and 12 great grandchildren. He served in the U.S. Army, and was a Vietnam veteran. He was a diesel me- chanic and skilled woodworker, who made intricately designed boxes, pens and cutting boards.
