For those interested in a garden space, the cost GU teacher is honored – again Two Grant Union graduates name Shelley for teaching award Blue Mountain Eagle LA GRANDE – For the second year in a row, Grant Union Junior-Senior High School teacher Elizabeth Shelley has been rec- ognized by former stu- dents as “in- spirational.” Hannah Elizabeth B r andsma Shelley and Mikayla Luttrell, first-year honor students at Eastern Oregon University in La Grande, nominated Shelley for the 2015 Inspirational Teacher award. She is one of 19 ed- ucators from Oregon and Washington to receive the honor. Brandsma, the daugh- ter of Terry and Megan Brandsma, and Luttrell, the daughter of Valerie Luttrell, are 2014 grad- uates of Grant Union Junior Senior High School. As students who have maintained dean’s list standing during the fall term, the pair were offered the opportunity to nomi- nate a teacher who influ- enced them on their road to higher education and academic excellence. EOU presents the an- nual awards to recognize outstanding teachers who “encourage and repre- sent the importance of higher education to their students.” Things will be hopping in Dayville 2nd annual Bunny Hop 5K set for April 4 Blue Mountain Eagle DAYVILLE – Things will be hopping in Day- ville for the community’s S TUDENT OF THE MONTH February – Long Creek School second annual Bunny Hop 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, April 4. Registration starts at 8 a.m. and the race at 9 a.m. Participants can park at the Dayville School gym, where bus transportation will be available to the starting point up South Fork Road. is $15 for a 5 by 10-foot bed and $25 for a 5 by 20-foot one. Cliff Bentz (R-Ontario) will hold a town hall meeting in John Day this Saturday. The meeting will be from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at The Outpost Restaurant. Bentz plans to present in- formation on legislative issues including the proposed $7.2 mil- lion school budget, the low-car- bon fuel standard, automatic voter registration, sage grouse habitat recovery funding, and more. The session wraps up a series of eight town halls scheduled by Bentz for Friday and Saturday, across House District 60. The itinerary also in- cludes a stop in Harney County, from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Apple Peddler in Hines. Thank you!
