A2 Family Blue Mountain Eagle Wednesday, March 25, 2015 Sunrise service coming up E AGLE ON VACATION Blue Mountain Eagle JOHN DAY – The Grant County Ministerial Associa- tion will sponsor the annual Easter Sunrise Service and breakfast on Sunday, April 5. The service will be at 6:30 a.m. Sunday, April 5, off Air- port Road – Crisp Heights area – in John Day. Volunteers will be at the horseshoe curve to assist people in getting to the site. A free shuttle will also help with transportation, although there will be limited seating available in the wait- ing area. Following the Easter ser- vice, at approximately 7:45 a.m., a complimentary break- fast will be offered at First Christian Church, 311 N.E. Dayton St. The menu includes egg-sausage-potato casserole, IUXLWPXI¿QVDQGGULQNV Donations will be accept- ed, with all the proceeds to EHQH¿W WKH *UDQW &RXQW\ Food Bank. A Food Bank rep- resentative will be on hand to answer questions about the program. Services and supplies for the event are made possible by volunteers from local, par- ticipating churches; Chester’s Thriftway; John Day Polaris, providing the shuttle service; and Thrivent Financial. A memorial ceremony will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 29, at the Seventh-day Adventist Church fellowship hall in Long Creek. Mr. Bailor was born March 28, 1938, in Bend, to Wilson and Merlin Bailor. He grew up in Oregon, main- ly on the Siletz Reservation, where he graduated from high school in 1956. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1957, and served four years DVDVLJQDOPDQRQWKH8666NDJLWGXULQJWKHFRQÀLFWEHWZHHQ China and Formosa (now Taiwan), where his ship was active. During his enlistment, he was also director of the Naval Drum and Bugle Corps, and the Chanteymen Choir. After his service, he returned to Oregon where he worked in WKHORJJLQJ¿HOG During this time, he met his future wife, Patsy Minkler. They were married on March 2, 1962, and had four children over the next eight years. In 1974, he got a job working for John Deere in Alaska during the pipeline construction. The family moved to Anchor- age shortly after. The couple stayed in Alaska for the next 30 years, living in such central Alaska communities as Suntrana, Nenana and An- derson. He had many jobs and businesses during that time including heavy duty equipment mechanic and convenience store owner. In 2004, they moved to John Day and then to Long Creek, where they spent his last seven years. Survivors include his wife, Pat, of Long Creek; sister, Billie, of Eugene; children, Joe (Anita), Martha (Estes), Scott (Leann) and Will (Julie); 15 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchil- dren, living and serving throughout the world. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Darrell and By- ron. Mamie Collier Mamie Collier, 85, of Prairie City, died March 17 at Blue Mountain Hospital in John Day. Services will be private. Arrangements are under the care of Driskill Memorial Chapel, 241 S. Canyon Blvd., John Day, OR 97845. Jerry Vernon Cohoe Feb. 28, 1936 – March 20, 2015 LA GRANDE – Jerry Vernon Cohoe, 79, died March 20 at his La Grande home. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Fri- day, March 27, at Prairie City Cemetery. Mr. Cohoe was born Feb. 28, 1936, in Prairie City, to Vir- gil Vernon and Regna Matilda (Johnson) Cohoe. He lived in Long Creek, Austin-Bates, Basque, Ontario, Baker City and La Grande. He attended Long Creek School, and participated in basket- ball and junior rodeo group. He spent some of his childhood years with his grandparents, Felix and Maude Johnson, on their ranch on the Middle Fork of the John Day River. He was mar- ried to Elaine Davis and Virginia Adams. He was a logger and then worked for the state highway de- partment, stationed at Austin Junction, Basque and Ontario, re- tiring from Ontario in 1995. He made his home in Baker City until Jan. 2010, moving to Joseph, living with his nephew and niece, Chuck and Earleen Arbogast, then moved to La Grande in 2011. He loved to play music and was an active member of the Blue Mountain Fiddlers. He was also an active member of the %DNHU&LW\(DJOHVDQGHQMR\HGKXQWLQJDQG¿VKLQJ Survivors include his sister, Dean Arbogast, of La Grande; nephew, Chuck (Earleen) Arbogast of La Grande; stepsons, Bill and Ron Davis of Halfway; nine great-stepgrandchildren; three stepgrandsons, Collin, Martin and Jason Davis; two great-neph- ews, John Arbogast of Enterprise and Justin Arbogast of Hous- ton, Mo.; and many other family members.
