Woodbury noted his play- ers “never quit.” He was pleased with his team’s positive attitudes and behavior on and off the court. “This has been my favor- ite group of kids to coach,” Woodbury said. “They’ve been willing and receptive to playing basketball. “We played with class and didn’t put the game before grades or school. They were there to play basketball.” Senior player Triston Em- mel said this year’s basket- ball season was “the great- est” and said he appreciated his teammates stepping up and “changing from a group of young kids to a group of young men.” He added, “I look forward to coming back to watch these men take it over next year.” Panther Garrett Hitz was named to the High Desert League All League Second Team. Heartbreaker halts team’s hopes for state By Angel Carpenter Blue Mountain Eagle JOHN DAY – Pressure was intense from the get-go for the Dayville/Monument Ti- ger boys as they faced Adrian last Saturday in Game 5 of the 1A High Desert District Tour- nament. It was a team the Tigers had beaten three times in the regular season, but this time Adrian squeaked by for a 39- 34 victory. The game was critical for the Tigers because a win prom- ised a ticket to the state play- offs, making it an especially tough loss. The Tigers lost Game 3 to Crane, 46-53, the previous day. Against Adrian, the Tigers OHGHDUO\LQWKH¿UVWTXDU- ter. Jordan Bowlus had a steal and score of 2, Tanner Mood- enbaugh had another bucket, and Dakota Emerson scored twice in the quarter. Hayden Schafer and Sage Flower also contributed with rebounds. That helped the team close the gap slightly, ending the quarter trailing, 22-27.
