Pressure-cooker
game ousts Tigers
JOHN DAY – The Prai-
rie City Panther boys fought
hard, but lost an uphill battle,
34-57, to Harper/Huntington
last Thursday.
The game was a play-in
contest to decide which team

nament.
“We started fairly evenly
matched, but Harper/Hun-
tington had more desire in the
second half than we did,” said
head coach Mark Woodbury.
Early on, the Panthers took
a 1-point lead at 8-7, but they
let the lead slip away in the
second, and their opponents

ran with it.
The Hornets had a big of-
fensive third quarter, scoring
25 points.
The Panthers fought to
catch up, scoring 20 points
in the fourth, but Harper/
Huntington kept pace with 12
points in the quarter.
Woodbury noted his play-
ers “never quit.”
He was pleased with his
team’s positive attitudes
and behavior on and off the
court.
“This has been my favor-
ite group of kids to coach,”
Woodbury said. “They’ve
been willing and receptive to
playing basketball.
“We played with class and
didn’t put the game before
grades or school. They were
there to play basketball.”
Senior player Triston Em-
mel said this year’s basket-
ball season was “the great-
est” and said he appreciated
his teammates stepping up
and “changing from a group
of young kids to a group of
young men.”
He added, “I look forward
to coming back to watch these
men take it over next year.”

Team.

JOHN DAY – Pressure
was intense from the get-go
for the Dayville/Monument Ti-
ger boys as they faced Adrian
last Saturday in Game 5 of the
1A High Desert District Tour-
nament.
It was a team the Tigers
had beaten three times in the
regular season, but this time
Adrian squeaked by for a 39-
34 victory.
The game was critical for
the Tigers because a win prom-
ised a ticket to the state play-
offs, making it an especially
tough loss.
The Tigers lost Game 3 to
Crane, 46-53, the previous day.
Against Adrian, the Tigers

twice in the quarter.
Hayden Schafer and Sage

with rebounds and scoring.
That helped the team close
the gap slightly, ending the
quarter trailing, 22-27.
