A6 Community Blue Mountain Eagle Wednesday, January 14, 2015 G RANT C OUNTY SENIORS John Day Seniors Alma Joslin JOHN DAY – For lunch on Jan.5 we had really good spaghetti and noo- dles with orange romaine salad, green beans and grilled garlic toast, and chocolate chip cookies. Judi had help in the kitch- en – her new cooks’ help- er, Shay Lewis. I met him, and he seemed to know his way around the kitchen and was a very nice, po- lite young man. Welcome aboard, Shay. Ron Dowse and Mar- ianne Morris greeted us at the desk. Joyce Nodine and Sandra Flanigan, from Blue Mountain Hospital Auxiliary, were our serv- ers, and also delivered 21 meals plus 12 frozen ones for shut-ins. Veanne Wed- dle also helped with the deliveries. Joyce led the flag salute, and I asked the blessing. Veanne introduced and welcomed Shay Lewis, and also had reminders of things to come this week. It was also Veanne’s birth- day. Happy Birthday, Veanne! Helen Bogart won the Len’s Drug gift certifi- cate, and I won the free meal. On Jan. 8, we had beef stroganoff, tossed sal- ad, green peas, hot rolls, and for dessert, birthday cake. We had a full house; it was great to see all of you there. Boulder Creek Ranch furnished the en- trée, and Driskill’s Funer- al Home and Blue Moun- tain Hospice donated the birthday cake. A Flower Shop and More donat- ed the birthday flowers. There were six January birthdays, but I only got three names: Jan Ellison, Veanne Weddle and Gloria Kulis. The Glasses and Veanne delivered 24 meals. Gloria Kulis and Margaret Glass greeted us. Our servers were from Cornerstone Bible Way is Closing CLOSE OUT SALE Saturday, January 17th 9 am - 2 pm Christian Fellowship. Donna Johnson led the flag salute, and Pastor Levi Manitsas asked the blessing. Veanne announced next month we will have home- made banana nut bread. So, don’t toss those brown bananas – stick them in your freezer to donate to the center. We had a few guests: Francis Nichols came with Jim Lound, and Pas- tor Manitsas brought his wife, Kathryn, and his young daughter, Kristin. If I missed any first-tim- ers, I’m sorry. Susan Fowle won the Chester’s Thriftway cer- tificate, and Wilma Bauer won the lunch for two at Valley View. Following lunch, at 1 p.m., we had our first Thursday afternoon bingo game. There was a good turnout, and we had lots of fun. For our kickoff, we had several door prizes from merchants in town. We appreciate all the do- nations, and everyone for turning out. We will have bingo every Thursday. Come join us for lunch, and stay and play. Hebrews 13:16 “Do not forget to do good and to share.” 401 W. While living in California, I once packed away all my summer clothes because the weather was getting cooler and cooler. Well, needless to say, the very next day, it warmed up again, and I had to unpack them all. The weather there was up and down. Here, I like that there are clear seasonal changes. I am really enjoying being able to wear my winter coats. Almost all my coats hung in the clos- et collecting dust. Not so over here! Hope everyone has a won- derful week and stays safe. The roads have been a little treacher- ous and also around our homes due to the snow turning icy. Be careful out there.
