O BITUARIES Kerry Sharp June 1, 1944 – Jan. 4, 2015 BEND – Kerry Sharp, 70, died Jan. 4 at St. Charles Medical Center in Bend, with her family by her side. Per her wishes, she will be cremated. The family will spread her ashes during a Cele- bration of Life June 7 at Magone Lake. All family and friends are invited. A picnic at Magone Lake will follow. Mrs. Sharp was born June 1, 1944, in Lake City, Iowa, to Glenn and Vivian Kirchner. She graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1962, and married her high school sweetheart, Jack Sharp, on Sept. 1, 1962. She worked as the bakery manager at Chester’s Thriftway in John Day for over 20 years. Her most cherished interests were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an avid sports fan and support- er, as she tirelessly followed her kids and grandkids to all their sporting events, rodeos and 4-H fairs throughout the years. She volunteered many hours and years in support of the Grant Union High School baseball program, running the hamburger stand that helped to support the program. Survivors include her husband, Jack Sharp, of Canyon City; sons, Greg (Mary Jo) Sharp of Vale and Doug (Becky) Sharp of John Day; daughter, Jana (Eric) Smith of Imnaha; grandsons, Tyler (Aspen) Smith of Imnaha, Brady Sharp of Vale and Wy- att Smith of Imnaha; granddaughters, Lindsey (Austin) Hood of Wilton, Calif., Amanda Smith of Imnaha, and Josie Sharp and Ri- ley Sharp, both of John Day; great-grandsons, Peyton Hood and Sawyer Smith; great-granddaughter, Adalida Smith; and brother, John “Butch” Kirchner of Canyon City. She was preceded in death by her brother, Clark Kirchner. Arrangements are under the care of Driskill Memorial Chapel, 241 S. Canyon Blvd., John Day, OR, 97845. Betty Jo Pillar Aug. 2, 1932 – Nov. 29, 2014 Betty Jo Pillar, 82, of Walla Walla, Wash., former camp host at Magone Lake, died Nov. 29. Mrs. Pillar was born Aug. 2, 1932, in Hollywood, Calif., to Dwight and Julia Frankeberger. Among other activities and duties during her life, she and her husband were camp hosts for the U.S. Forest Service at Magone Lake. After his death, she continued to host for 10 more years. After that, she retired to Walla Walla where she became involved with the YMCA, serving that organization for many years. Survivors include her children, Les (Annamarie) Wit- wer, Julia West, and John (Cheryl Richmond) Witwer; broth- er, John (Rosie) Frankeberger; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Leslie, and sister, Mary Eileen. A celebration of life, open to all, will be held in the spring at Magone Lake.
