The little second baseman, ho collected more than 2,500 hits in 17 American League seasons, Is batting .364 after six games in the National League and Monday night shared hon ors with pitcher Dick Farrell as the Colts beat the St. Louis Cardinals, 7-1, for their third win of the year. Fox drove in four runs with a two-run single and a two-run triple to provide the key blows behind the four-hit pitching of f arrell. He capped a tour-run rally that drove Ray Sadeckl to cover in the second inning with the two-run single and tripled home two more runs olt re liever Harry Fanok in the fourth. Farrell, whose low fast ball Is very effective In the Houston park, struck out seven, walked four and allowed only one Car dinal to reach third until Ken Boyer homered in the ninth. Willie Mays roomed his aver age to .444 as the San Fran cisco Giants downed the Cin cinnati Reds, 5-2, the Milwau kee Braves dealt the Los An geles Dodgers their sixth straight loss, 7-1, and the Bos ton Red Sox whipped the New York Yankees, 4-0, in the only other games. Lee Maye homered for the Braves, who clinched the victory with three runs on three singles and as many walks against Bob Miller in the sixth. Nick Willhite suf fered the loss. Bill Monbouquette allowed seven hits In eight innings and star reliever Dick Radatz struck out the side in the ninth although two men reached base to hand Yogi Berra and his Yankees their fourth setback in five games. The Bulletin, Tuesday, April 21, 1964 Sports Joseph's grand slam top Coast poke as Dallas beats Spokane 9 By United Prats International Ricardo Joseph's grand - slam homer at Dallas provided most of the pacific Coast League s of fensive punch Monday night as pitchers pretty well dominated a quartet of low-scoring games, Joseph's belt came in the third off Norm Koch of Spo kane after two walks and an error had wiped out a 2-0 Spo kane lead which had come on a two-run four-master by Bart Shirley. Every run came as a result of homers since Al Ferrara of the Indians and Don Taussig of the Rangers added solo shots to account for the 5-3 Dallas win. Rudy Hernandez went 71-3 innings to get the win, while Koch was the loser. Elsewhere around the league, Skinner's error enables Giants to beat Reds, 5-2 SAN FRANCISCO (UPI) - Bob Skinner, the Cincinnati Reds rangy outfielder from San Diego, had at least one consola tion today. Tie two -run error that he committed against the San Francisco Giants Monday didn't cost his team the pennant. But it did cost them a 5-2 defeat at the hands of the Giants, who tallied three un earned runs during the eighth inning after two were out with Skinner's bobble opening the floodgates. No excuses, he said frank ly, when asked what happened on Tom Haller's pop fly to short left field. "No sun in my eyes, no nothing. I just dropped the ball." The Giants are Idle today then open a 10-game road trip Wednesday in Milwaukee where Bob Hendly (0-1) probably will face the Braves' Denny Le- master (1-0). Read how Super Shell's anti-icing ingredient works to fight these pesky, embarrassing stalls. EMBARRASSING STALLS Even at 50 degrees, carburetor icing can stall your engine. Read how one of Super Shell's 9 working ingredients fights these mysterious stalls. Odd as it may sound, your engine's more likely to need Super Shell's anti-icing ingredient at this time of year than in the middle of winter. Another odd fact explains why : carbu retor icing is most likely to stall your engine when the outside temperature is above freezing. How carburetors can get cold When air flows into your carburetor, it makes the fuel evaporate. This lowers the temperature inside the carburetor. To get some uha of what happens when the fuelevaporates, moisten the hack of your hand and blow on it. Notice how the skin suddenly feels quite cool? Dial's due to moisture evaporating. Hie same thing happens in your carburetor. Ilium To fight rartnmlor king, stop at this clean white Super She II pump. Now that you know how carburetors can get cool, it's easy to understand how ice can form. Here's the sequence: 1. You can't have ice without having mois ture first. When the temperature goes be low freezing, there tends to be less mois ture in the air. But when it warms up a bit, the air can hold much more moisture. 2. With your engine running, your car buretor takes in great quantities of air. At this time of year, it's likely to be moisture laden air. 3. The refrigerating process inside your carburetor can turn that moisture to ice almost instantly. 4. Once that ice sticks to vital carburetor parts and starts to build up to a critical level, you're an A-l candidate for an icing stall. How Shell's anti-icer works Super Shell's anti-icer fights ice buildup in your carburetor by coating vital carbu retor parts with a thin, protective film. This film helps carburetor surfaces shrug off the ice before it can build up to a critical level and cause you to stall. TJic anti-icer in Super Shell gasoline does much the same job as melted butter in a frying pan. It helps keep things from sticking to metal surfaces. When ice can't stick, it can't build up. And your engine keeps running smoothly instead of embarrassing you with a pesky stall when you stop. And that's how Super Shell's anti-icer works to help make your car work better. Super Shell has 9 working ingredients to make your car work better But anti-icer is only one of Super Shell's 9 working ingredients. Here's a quick rundown on the other eight. TCP and cat-cracked gasoline work for smooth running and power. Anti-knock mix and Alkylate work to fight all kinds of knock for a quiet engine. Plnlformnle works to give good mileage.
