(Extension Service photo) Nafhele Bodtker shows Jersey cow at Albany Special is The Bulletin REDMOND Nathele Pwltkcr, IB, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Folmer Bodlker, Tiimalo, showed the Jersey cow that was judged first senior cow and grand cham pion female in the junior division of the Oregon Jersey Cattle Club show and sale recently in Albany. Several other cows from the Bodtker herd also took honors. Nancy Bodtker, 17, had the first prize four-year-old. two-year-old and junior calf. Second prizes were taken by Bodtker's yearling bull, four-year-old cow and junior calf and his two-year-old cow placed third. . Nancy won second place In the junior division showmanship con test. Nathele's grand champion had been judged "very good" in an of ficial classification made of the Bodtker herd two weeks before the show. Arlis Anderson of State College, Miss., classified the herd. Kennedy reveals plans for building supersonic plane By Robert J. Strling UPr Aviation Editor WASHINGTON (UPI) - The United States will try to build a supersonic airliner capable of fly ing from New York to Fans in less than three hours. The announcement by President Kennedy Wednesday was based on recommendations f.-om a high level Cabinet committee headed by Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson. It put the United States into the hot supersonic transport competition generated mainly by the British-French project known as Concorde. Concorde Is aimed at producing an airliner with a speed of about 1,450 miles per hour, the proto type to be flying by 19fi6 and in actual service across the Atlantic by 1968. One U.S. airline. Pan American World Airways, disclosed Tuesday It had ordered six Concordes a Vacation Bible School planned Daily vacation Bible school at First Baptist Church will be held June 10-21. Classes will be held from 9 to 11:45 a.m. daily, Mon day through Friday. There are departments for all children from three years of age through those just out of the sixth grade. The church bus will run its regular route each day. The idea for the theme, "Tra veling God's Highway," is taken from Proverbs 16:17 and Isaiah j 35:8-9. Each department will have its' worship period, singing, Bible stories, handwork, games and surprises. Studies for the nursery children, supervised by Mrs. Ernest Mil ler, will center around "Loving and Pleasing Jesus." Mrs. Walter Marken will lead the beginners in a study of "God's Ways with Bible Children." Primary boys and girls have a study of "Bible Boats" led by Mrs. Robert Foley, supervisor. The junior age, supervised by Mrs. William James, will study "The Christian's Walk and Talk." ' Bible school plans reported First Missionary Baptist Church. E. Second Street and Greenwood Avenue, will hold va cation Bible school next week. June 10 through 14. Classes will be held daily from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. There will be classes for all ages. The program will include singing, Bible study, flannelgraph work, object lessons and hand craft. Mid-morning refreshments will be served. Transportation will be furnish ed. Such a plane, however, would re quire new metals and engines. The necessary development work could never match the 1966 dead line for a Concorde prototype, which will be built of convention al aluminum with already avail able engines. The President emphasized that if the design competition reveals the impracticality of a supersonic airliner, the project will be post poned or scrapped. Test of powers urged for group PORTLAND (UPI) The Ore gon Fish Commission was urged Wednesday to test its new powers of condemnation in order to build a fishway on the Lostine River in Wallowa County. Boyd Ayers, federal coordinator for the commission, said owners of two parcels of land have re fused to grant access to a dam across the river near Lostine. He said it is blocking salmon and steelhead access to good spawn- The 1W-1 legislature granted the commission the power of eminent domain. The dam is the property of the Sheep Ridge Ditch Co., an irriga tion project. The company has au thorized the fishway, Ayers said, but land owners have refused to grant an easement to reach the dam except at a price he con siders excessive.
