Bend's schools, nlr, cndy tinstir .passed of their class, arc to be held to their high standing. The tax- ,paycrs will,, cheerfully provide tin; necessary facilities, as vas cvi ,dcnccd by the bond election. It costs motley to ptovidc good edit .catipnal advantages, but the com munity can make no investment that will bring it larger returns. Note should be, taken of the fact that all the city officers to bt chosen next Tuesday, except two aldcnncn .vho are to fill vacancies, are to hold for two years each. The statute provides thai there shall be a general city election, tvery year, from which the infer ence was drawn that the term of city officers was to be one year. However, it Is clearly stated fn the law that the term of office of mayor, recorder, treasurer and marshal ,shall be" two years, after the first' term. , It is, of course, useless to enter ,into an academic discussion bf the issues in the municipal campaign. ,Tn a small community like this ev ery Voter bases his action on in for-' .mationat first hand. The affairs. ,of the town have been economically and fairly conducted in the past- year because the men in responsi' -ble positions have been themselves interested in the city's welfare. So it .should be continued, Most cities iequire their officers to be owners of real estate within the city, and it might be a wise thing to have such an ordinance in Bend. However, the Bend election next week will probably turn on a totally different issue. It is a fight for control of the council. Review, has in store for this tin inspecting old world. Up to ditto, however, t;o institution at Bend has grown so helpless and discouraged, so flabby and llnccid, as to send forth such a plaintive whine ns the following, which also appeared in the Review last week: Wc nrc nbout to semi out some more MtWrintlon dun., nnd hope who ever receive them will ie the Mine full consideration. The finnueint needs of it prlntaliop nrc niitiierom mid pruieiuK, mid nothing makes tut editor feel Imdly ah to )c nimble to pay up. Kindly help us out. Therefore, good people, please help the blind and false and cor rupt attd ignorant and prejudiced and dirty. Having no principles they need the money. The Review can't mend its own fortunes by knocking Bend. Bend is all right and it will continue to thrive when the Review is gone and forgotten. For the present, let the galled jade wince. NotrVe.
