The public all have respect for th e laws, which as a whole has come to look upon are for the protection of th e public. th e E llison-W hite C hautauqua sys Am erica ia rapidly m aking for herself a nam e aa a law breaking n atio n and unless som ething is speedily done to stay the wave of law -breaking which seems to be sw eeping ruthlessly over the coun try , we w ill find th a t the appella tion has come to stay; T here are undoubtedly deep-seated reasons for any such condition w hich involves a co u n try so com pletely and so a l m ost universally as does the present law -breaking wave. Can you pick up a daily paper today and read it th ro u g h w ith o u t being * impressed w ith the g reat num ber of law viola tions w hich a re enum erated? We believe th a t several causes of th is sp irit of defiance of law are al m ost evident and should be reme died. T here is probably no more frequent law violation th an th a t of th e traffic laws. H ardly a day passes b u t from one to a num ber of per sons sacrifice th e ir lives to the speed demon or th e negligent person who failed to see th a t his auto was In proper shape fo r safe ru n n in g . And yet. how com paratively few of these persons, whose cprelessness has I caused a loss of life, have ever been m ade to pay a penalty for th eir 'crim e.
