It win be needful, therefore, that missionary w ork be done among partially without any sta gestion, gentlemen, that nickels expended in treats to the boys now wiU return in dollar* to yourtiUs after the appetites have been formed. Above all things, create appetite." This is certain ly good logic from the stand point of the liquor dealer but Yamhill county went out of the buggies* tw o years ago and there is little indication that our peo ple want to go in to it again. The trouble seems to be that no body wants to furnish the boys. Newbarg Graphic a Live Paper. It is gratifying to note, says the Newberg Graphic, t£at not one single name (on the petition asking for re-submission o f the liquor question) is credited to Newberg. That certainly is a record for any city to be proud of. This could hardly have been accom plished however without the aid o f a good live local weekly paper whose editor is above the aver age o f men, who has convictions ot his own and backbone enough to stand up for them. Newberg is to be congratu lated in having an editor who has tne ability, the grit and the will to stand foremost in the fight for a clean city, county and state.—Telephone Register. The efforts o f the Journal to find some reasonable objec tion to the republican candidate for Senator are amusing. It can n ot question Mr. Cake’s republi canism, and it does not dare to boast o f Chamberlain’s democ racy. All it can do. in its efforts to pull the w ool over the eyes o f the voters is to tout Chamber lain as a Roosevelt republican and pretend that Cake has aban doned Statement No. 1. The truth is that Chamberlain is a Bryan democrat, and that Cake is standing exactly where be has always stood in reference to the election o f senators by a direct vote o f the people. The republi can voters fully understand the situation, and will not permit themselves to be blinded by the Journal’s sophistry. The nomi nation o f Mr. Cake smoked that paper out o f its democratic hole, and it is no longer able to pose as an independent journal. Its frantic efforts to find some argu- meut against Mr. Cake’s stand on Statement No. 1 have proved t o the voters that it is not so much interested in the success o f that principle as in the election o f George Chamberlain, demo crat.
