The following letter from the only mercantile house at Silver Lake to tbe County Judge of Klamath county nega tives the idea that there is any great dis tress for the want of food and money. Silver Lake, Or,, Jan. 30,1895. Mr. C. 8. Moore, Klamath Falls, Or. Dear Sir.—Your favor of the 24th inst. received, which contained a check for $5.00 endorsed in our favor for the bene fit of our sufferers, which are bo reported as sufferers. We cannot see that we are in need of any money, especially at the present. We only have had two families that were in actual need, and we have had several very liberal donations from a distance, but of course money at this time of a year is scarce here which is on account of our citizens laying in their supplies in the fall for the winter. This being the case bow can we have people in distressing circumstances, which is reported. We are sorry that such is the report, as we could have had all the help in our own county, without calling on the charity of the 6tate for aid. Of course the doctor ought to be paid and the med icine had to be bought and the nurses had to be boarded; and the nurses are what we are indebted to tbe worst, but people came from over the county which was very acceptable. As a rule, our citi zens are far beyond an average liver which can be readily verified by examin* ing our tax-pav'ng list at the county seat. All of our sufferers are out of danger ex cept Mrs. T. J. Labrie. Geo. L. Payne and Charley Snelling, and they will un doubtedly recover if nothing else takes a hold of them. Only one death among the burned ones since the fire which was Bob Snelling, who was taken with acute pneumonia and brain fever, which killed him. We will hold your $5.00 awaiting an answer as to what to do with it as we certainly have all we can possibly use, but we are very thankful for your gener ous offer and assuring you the fact, that you will be remembered should we ever have an opportunity to do so.
