Tacoma, Wash., Aug. 26.— (Spccinl.)—Yellow jackets areprov- ing n great pest to fruitgrowers this year in ¡the territory tributary to Tacoma. They first attacked red raspberries in a ravenous way and then as the numbers increased, they began devouring blackberries. Now they are working on apples and plums. One man said he counted nine yellow jackets qq a single plum Old settlers say their appearance is not new here, but they seem more numerous in some seasons than in others. Then they disappear just as the worm pests do and reappear after a few seasons. It has keen suggested by some that the absence of flowers during dry season com pels tbe yellow jackets to seek their materials tor food supply in fruit. In a beautiful white casket, at the Western Addition Undertaking Par lors, lies the Spanish lap dog, for many years the pet and companion of Captain D F. Tozier of the reve nue cutter service. A silver plate on the casket benrs this inscription: “ Lima” August 11, 1907,13 jeais 6 months. And the beautiful little dog is to have a $1,000 funeral. $1.50 P er Y ear Under New M anagem ent. Geo.
