Angus Rackleff returned home Sun day from Broadbent whore he had been visiting fo r several days. Dora Willard, o f Coquille, is visiUng at tha C. C. Carter home this week. C. C. Carter shipped a load o f hogs and cattle Saturday morning, retu-J- ing Tuesday evening. Angus McDonald, o f Broadbent, was in town Sunday. Monday afternoon a quilting party was held at Mrs. N elly Bender's. The afternoon was spent in quilting after which dainty refreshments ware served. k- Mrs. 0. H. Clarke went to Bandon Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Carter visited relatives in Coquille Sunday. A. C. Chase, o f Creswell, will be here in a few days. He intends starting a cannery. Mrs. Lacy Culver and son, Frank, o f Rock Creek, were in town Saturday on business. A t the regular council meeting held Monday evening an ordinance was passed to regulate new licenses for traveling shows, theaters and moving picture shows, entertainments and Chautauqua*. Forty dollars was ap propriated to clean up the town. Mrs. Max Dement and daughters, Theresa and Lila, were in town Thurs day from the ranch. Word was received from Vinnie A r rington that he is to go to Mare Is land Monday to train for the U. S. Marine Corps. Mrs. Lanson Leneve, deputy post mistress o f Coquille, was visiting ut Mrs. Julia Arrington’s Tuesday. Mrs. Susie W hite and children, o f Curry county, are visiting at Henry Stewart’s home. Harry Jarvis from up Coos river was visiting Mr. and Mrs. J. M. A r rington Tuesday. Chester Adams, who is attending the University o f Oregon at Eugene, is home fo r the summer vacation. Mrs. Pike is visiting here this week. Uncle Dan Giles Is not improving s his friends would wish. Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Carey and fam ily went to Bancroft Thursday for a few days’ visit with Mrs. Carey’s brother, George Crunk, who is quite sick with pneumonia. Ben Mnddox, conductor, left this week for Roseburg. He has been transferred to his old run on the main line from Roseburg to Ashland. The fam ily will be minted by their many friends. Mrs. J.. W. Whitaker is the new chairman fo r the Junior Red Croes, which meets Thursday and Saturday afternoons. Mrs. Stevens, o f North Bend, visited the Junior Red Cross Thursday. Mrs. Stevens is chairman o f the Belgian R elief work in her home town. Rev. F. G. Drake and daughters, Mildred and Edna, visited with Mr. and Mrs. W illiam Stouff, o f A ra go, Wedneaday. Dr. H. M. Shaw came over from Marshfield this week to perform two operations, one fo r W. James’ daugh ter, and the other fo r W. W. N ye’s sen. M. O. Robinson was brought to town this week in a critical condition from Remote to be mnder the doctor’* care. Sirs. Mulkey, o f Coquille, was In town Wednesday. Mr. Cutler end fam ily have been taking advantage o f the fine weather by picnicing in their grove. Mrs. N ellie Thayer, w ife o f O. O. Thayer, o f this city, died at her home Tuesday afternoon a fter a lingering illness. She was born Feb. 12th, 1872, aged 46 years, 4 months and 6 days at the time o f her death. Mrs. Thayer leaves besides her husband an only son, by a form er marriage, G. L. Brene- man, o f Marthaton, Iowa,(who was with her during the last days o f her sickness) to mourn their loss. Mildred Mast has gone to Beaver Slough where she has employment at Aasen’s Camp. Katie Brown returned home Satur day from Marshfield, she having grad uatod from the high school at that place. They have been putting gravel on the road from the Snow place to the Cherry Creek bridge, which will be a great improvement, as it was in vary bad condition. B. R. Kingsbury has purchased a new Chevrolet truck. This makes 7 new cars that have coma to McKinley in the last two months, all ChevrolaU and Maxwells. Lee Mast and W alter Moyers ara busy moving L. F.
