(Sentinel Photo) Linda Crew Takes First Place Honors At Outstanding Talent Show Saturday *— T alented Linda Crew of Bandon won first place honors in th e Ac tive Clubs highly successful Sec ond A nnual T alent Show held S a t urday night at the Com m unity Building. Linda, who is 10, was sponsored Bandon’s W om ans Civic club and w as judged w in n er for her excel lent playing of several piano se lections. F irst place prize aw ard ed was a $100 defense bond. Second place w inner was Linda Molthu of Coquille who did a clev e r and unusual im itation. O ne of most hum orous was her im itation of a cat and dog fight. Sponsored by th e Coquille Lions club. Miss Molthu was presented w ith a $50 defense bond. D arlene Barkley of M yrtle Point was w in n er of the $25 defense bond for third place honors she won for h e r vocal in terp retatio n of "God’s L ittle Candles.” All of th e organizations spon soring contestants have not re ported the results of th e ir ticket sales as yet, so th e group that will receiye the $250 prize is still unknow n. O ther en tertain ers cn th e eve nings program , which was p re sented before an audience of abbut 1150, were Shirley Tobey of Myr tle Point, vocalist and last year's w inner, and W ilbur and Ju d y J e n sen of Langlois. W ilbur plays the trum pet and Ju d y the saxaphone and clarinet. N ate Cohn of th e “S tars of To m orrow ” radio program , sponsored by the S tar F urn itu re Com pany in P ortland, was m aster of cere monies for the S aturday evening show here. Coming with Cohn to participate ' in the outstanding evening events w ere David Carlson, 14 year old "Songbird of the W est” who spec ializes in popular songs; and Von- delee Connor, 7 years, who won sta te am ateu r honors last year for ’ her singing and dancing. Child, 55, who died May 13 at a P ortland hospital follow ing a b rief illness. Rev. B J e a n C lark officiated and fin a l in term en t was a t Sunset Cemetery. She was born Ju n e 10, 1897 at M yrtle P oint and had spent her entire life in Coquille. She w as a m em ber of Mamie Rebekah Lodge tw enty. S urvivors include her husband. Jam es Child at the fam ily hom e; one d au g h ter, N orene K ing of M yrtle P oint tw o sisters, Mrs. Roxy Stinson of Dos Palos, Calif, and Mrs. D orothy S parks of San Francisco; and three brothers.
