Santa Claus Letters Express Many Desires Ernie Kuntz was busy this week pondering the desires of small Co quille youngsters who have left their Santa Claus letters at his store for reply from Santa Claus who appears every Saturday at the local Penney store. One wanted “Just a nice large candy cane, dear Santa.” Another wrote: “I want a Toni doll, I want a hat. I want a ball, and I want a play cat to pUy with.” \ A little boy wanted “a China lamp for his mother who always wanted one, but never has got one, and a book or two for himself. And, oh yes, we would like a rec ord player like they have at John ny’s Music store.” A wee tot also wanted “Jesus to • make all the bad men in stop fighting.. A wee tot in the second grade asked for various gifts, and then! wrote, “And also have Jesus stop all the bad men in the world from fighting.” • • CITY SALARIES TURNED TO NEW COUNCIL A request of City Engineer Joe Kuffler that city salaries be stud ied to the view of raising them was turned over to the newly elected city council by the present coun cil. The new council takes over January 2nd. • • Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Smalley and family leave on Friday to spend the Christmas weekend with rela tives in McMinnville. Mrs. Ja cobson left immediately to attend her sister-in-law’s funeral. Mr. and Mrs. Cooper visited in Coquille in August at the Jacobson home, and also at the homes of her nieces, Mrs. Eugene Flesher and Mrs. Frank Woodward also of Coquille, o • Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Moore at tended a party at the Clarence Green residence at Coos Bay on Saturday evening. Cecil came home with first prize for pinochle. Mainly About People Mrs. H. E. Watkins o f the Arago district has returned from a three week vacation trip. After spend ing Thanksgiving with her mother in Newberg, she went on to visit In Portland, La Grande, Sweet Home, Jefferson and Eugene. But Coquille still looks good to her, she says. • • Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Sw inney left on Friday to spend two weeks Christmas holiday with relatives in Arizona. K ight w ill spend the Christmas week-end with Mr. Right’s parents at Vancouver, Wn. • • Bill Fortier has had aa his guest for several days, an old-time base ball friend, Deacon Van Buren of Portland. Van Buren and Bill played in the Northwest baseball league at the same time in 1908.
