Farr of Coos Bay was elected president of the Coos County Gideons at a luncheon meeting held at the Coquille hotel on Sunday. Other officers elected were Ro land James, North Bend, vice president; N eil Kyne, Coquille, secretary; Walter Parker, Coquille, treasurer, and Everett Russell, M yrtle Point, chaplain. The in stallation of officers was con ducted by Rev. George Wheatley. Donald Farr, evangelistic secre tary for the group, reported that during the past year twenty meet ings had been held in the various churches of the county. John Shilling reported that 173 Gideon Bibles had been placed during the year, making a total of 987 placed by the County group, and 2119 youth testaments dis tributed to school children, making a total of 347? placed by the Cods county society. ’ Guests at the meeting were Rev. and Mrs. Earl Soward, Rev. and Mrs. Ray Harrison, Rev. and Mrs. Howard May, Rev i^w rence Gu derian and Rev. and Mrs. George Wheatley. • • Dr. S. Raynor Smith, superin tendent of the Southern District of the Methodist church, w ill be in Coquille on Wednesday, October 27, to hold the first quarterly con ference of Pioneer Methodist church. Dr. Smith, who now resides in Eugene, is holding similar con ferences in the churches at North Bend and Coos Bay prior to com ing to Coquille. A t this conference the plans and procedure of the work of the church fo r the fa ll season w ill be presented and dis cussed. AU Methodist churches are asked to raise World Service giv ing, giving to the mission program of the church, one-third over lost year.' This matter, along w ith the Reserve Ministers’ Pension fund of the church, w ill occupy some of the attention of the conferenca. Delegates to the Missionary Con ference of Protestant churches to be held in Portland Nov. 8-9, w ill be elected during the local church conference. Dr. Smith expects to hold a conference at the M yrtle Point church on Thursday following the Seventh Day Adventist Church Evangelistic Service 745 p. m. Wednesday meeting here.
