The group ate a picnic lunch at noon near the Wolf Creek Tavern south of Azalea, took a number of pictures, and then proceeded to Grants Pass where they looked dver the displays in the Chamber of Com merce. In the early afternoon the two Riv erton cars headed for Crater Lake: The trip was very enjoyable and un usual inasmuch as in the upper alti tude both sides of the highway were stacked with snow that in many places towered over twice as high as the cars. At the entrance to the Na tional park the ranger informed the ’ group that the snow was 3% feet on the level and ran over 13 feet high « » ? »’-I i- - X » 1 66t 'Mr RWiW "ruar national um wnr or rut toctutr fjY!',l 8 »»<i o i > o 11 t ihsu - sahc T coitomi i o h SP w, ", IN THE COUNTY COURT OF THE COVNTT OF COOS, STATE OF OREGON » / BRIDGE Mia. Insured Carrier a SEE r » The ten visitors had a real treat when viewing the blue waters of the lake from the tops of the snow banks. In the early evening the cars left for Klamath Falls. After some shop ping and dining there, travel was re sumed to Ashland. On this leg of the journey the Wayne - Robinson Dodge presented the tired and hur ried passengers with a nice blow-out. “AU hands were drafted,” and the change was completed in less than ten minutes. At 10:30 o'clock the Wayne Robin son car reached the New Ashland Hotel where it found the other car load waiting. Rooms were engaged in the above-mentioned hotel, after which the boys and Mr. Robinson look in a double-feature show and later visited a restaurant. The girls looked over the town and finished off the evening by ordering mUk shakes and hamburgers. On Sunday morning at six o’clock Mr. Robinson got every one up. Af ter stowing away an unmeasurable quantity of hotcakes, ham, eggs, and coffee, the ten sightseers enjoyed a walk through the city park, which contained very beautiful shrubbery, pools and many wild animals and birds. The mother duck and her crew of babies afforded the moafeiv tertainment. Medford was the next stop, and then Jacksonville came in for its just share of “looking.” The oldest Pro ses ant church west of the Rockies, the ancient hotel with its interesting nfuseum, and the old saloon were the high points of interest. Noon found the party once again in Giants Pass after a visit to “The House of Mystery.” After lunch the trip to the Oregon Caves was started. By four o'clock the two-hour con ducted tour through the caves was completed, and the California line was the next goal. Before nightfall the redwoods put in their appearance —much to the awe of the students. The return trip to Riverton was made via the Coast Highway and at one o’clock Monday morning the “sneak” came to an end as the sen iors were all returned safely to their homes. The total distance traveled during the week-end waa about eeven hundred miles! Board Meeting One of the most important school board meeting» of the year was held at the Riverton school on Tuesday, May 4. Two riew teachers were chos en for the high school teaching staff to replace Miss Gertrude McCoy and Miss Helen Abel who, it is rumored, expect to desert the teaching profes sion for matrimony. Both new teach ers who have been offered contracts are Coos county girla. Miss Elda Gil man and Miss Gail Hufford are both graduates from the Coquille high school and will be graduated from the University of Oregon this spring. Both girls have been chosen for their preparation in the fields they must teach and for their known traits of character and personality. Miss Huf ford will establish and teach the new home economics department and English; Miss Gilman will teach the 'v'ial sciences and commercial sub jects. AU the other teaching posi tions in both the grade and high school were filled by re-election pf the present teachers: Miss Ann Al lard, Mrs. Joyce Owen, Miss Opal Robison and Wayne Smith in the grade school. Carroll Rycraft and Wayne Robinson in the high school. The school board also spent con siderable time considering the bids for transportation submitted by sev eral people who wish to haul the Riv erton pupils for the coming year. After much discusison it was con cluded that the cost of using new equipment with modern safety fea tures would- materially increase the level gait of a car built close enough bulk to hold it there. h ,v : 1 ■ I i t I I ■ • I I I I j I ï- LOWEST PRICE EVER ¡J 1 |WR A jt * TO HMT YOU« UKM* ! r/- '' f ■ r- I ’FIX« b öS ■'Ti m j MA f SOUTHWESTERN MOTORS COQUILLE OREGON i cost of transportation. In edition to the program there will be a community discussion of next year's bus transportation problem, the nomination and election of next year’s P. T. It was new and different to the Riverton community, so when Myrtle Clausen suggested a waffle supper to raise money to send a 4-H club mem ber to Corvallis, it was accepted and the affair was put into the hands of Wayne Robinson.
