THE COQUILLE VALLEY SENTINEL COQUILLE. OREGON. FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER E , 192$. H og lie 8 m * E clip a e September tenth (wss a bjg day for »outhern California and northern Mexico. 1 was down at T r * i. Mexico, It is tha capital o f lever Cal ifornia and we were right in 'th e thick of the shadow. The town was lull of wise men with g rm t tele scopes, soma said to be 80 foot long. mg. They were, however, somewhat die die- appointed as a high fo g that covared «red the sun cut eff their view, but the aky was fuU o f airplanes and some >me of the plane* were manned with both >otk a pilot end a photographer. They ascended high above the clouds end g ot seme good photos. It wee about 11:30 when the moon took ook its first little bite out of the sum, and an hour later it was dark as midnight ght and n mighty suspense felt oa this thia neck of the world. All traffic was i at a standstill; even the saloons that hat had been packed fall all morning ing were deserted, and painted women nen came out o f their dens and were look ok- ing up into the high heavens. I located a bunch of chickens in n a backyard, I wanted to see if they hey would go to roost, end they did, and ke- the doves and little birds did like wise. We could hear the little birds rds chirp and sing their little night songs, tgs, and when daylight began to c< on »w; again the roosters began to crow; iwo but they lost no time getting down from their roosts and sat down on the ground in_a bunch looking at one an led, other. They seemedd to be pussled, e3D and to understand that they had bean tricked in some way. ree The total darkness lasted three minutes and it ia a safe bet that mi- Hu man eyes have never looked upon i a hat more beautiful picture— a picture that au- defied all efforts to describe its beau ime ty. It was an ink-black baU aomi an- millions of mile* in diameter, crown >na ed with a rainbow colored corona nto aad shooting great rays o f fire into iai- space. A star or two were also rial uty bin and added greatly to the beauty o f tha scene. rou You may send me whet copies you >n*t hare oa hand o f my paper but don’t rail send more as I expect to hit the trail again soon.—O. L. Hoglie. Plant mi C om Bay It ia reported that there ia possi bility of getting the Ford Motor Co, o f Detroit, to establish a battery ’ board plant on Coot Bay. Tbs Ford company ia said to be utilising Port Orford cedar almost exclusively in its batteries, having started a little over e year ago and gradually increasing its consumption of the Coos county material. Hitherto they have been buying from battery board plant# but follow- iag Henry Ford’s policy o f produc ing practically all o f his stuff instead of buying parte from other manufac turers, they are now figuring on pro ducing their own battery stock.— Times. BAST FORK NOTES Uoyd Oddy and Mr* Oddy have sold their place on the East Pork to Bill Qleaoa. Last Saturay they had an auction at which they got prices for stock, tools and houaehold goods that were no indication o f a decline in the price o f wheat Wednesday they quit the ranching business and go to Marshfield where Lloyd has a good job as bookkeeper in a veneer plant. Their friends are sorry to have them leave the Eaat Fork. Ines and 1 sheared 76 with the help o f her mother, who tended the gate, tied up the fleeces, swept the floor, held the legs o f the kickers and held down their heads so they could not get up. We ail worked. Everett Howe shear ed fifteen. Francis Mills sheared three. If the boyr had not helped us out, it would have taken more days, Of those 76 sheep Inez sheared three more than I. The three o f us sacked the wool, and it is on the way to the Western Wool Warehouse Co., Portland, where the wool is graded and sold. The clip last spring netted 42.1c per Pound gross weight. That clip was scoured. . The shrinkage by grades was $-8 clothing 46%, 1-4 clothing 48%. Low 1-4 and Braid 40%, 3 8 and 18 sUin 66%. Has the County court promised 8. L.
