lllllsboro Independent. D. w. BATH. Editor and Proprietor. APRIL 17. 190a Today, the election; tomorrow, the big horse show. Remember that the polls open this Friday at 12 o'clock and This is Arbor Day, and besides planting trees, quite a number of aspirants to office will be plant ed" also. A vote cast for William A. Car ter for railroad commissioner m the primary today will be a vote in the interest of cheaper freight rates and better transportation facilities. If it is wrong to hold a county office for more than two terms, what do you think of the man who has warmed the same chair for twelve or fourteen years, and is still asking for more? In this case it would be quite proper to give a new man a chance. The Board of Trade edition of the Washington County News, published at Forest Grove, i3 a , credit to that city and its pub lisher, J. F. Woods. While its 'principal purjiose is to bring For est Grove, the home of Pacin University, prominently before the public, it gives Washington county a good write-up and tells of its wonderful resources and the great possibilities for its fut ure, both to the capitalists and the men and women looking for homes in the most productive, most healthful and best section of Oregon -God's own country, ine publication is printed on heavy bxk paper, is .well filled with illustrations of men and homes in Forest Grove, and is just the thing to send to friends in the East. The Independent does not take uion itself the liberty of telling any man how to vote; that mat ter rests with the voter himself. Still it is well to mention the fact that some candidates for office are better than others. An of ficial who has worked faithfully, saved the county money, and proved entirely satisfactory to the thousands of patrons of that particular office, is certainly the one to vote for. All the candi dates running for office in Wash ington county, with the excep tion of one or two, are good men and will make good officials, but as we said before, some men make better officials than others and are of much more value to the county. The thoughtful voter needs no instruction as to where to mark his X today. During the past year F. Schom berg took to the condenser 187.8G7 pounds of milk, which netted him. after hauling, $2,789.91, an average ot $1,48 4-10 per 100 at the farm. During this same time he also sold $227 worth of veal, bringing the total amount received from his dairy to $3, uio.ii lor the twelve months. For the month of March, just past, he received from the con denser people a check for $3T8.2. for milk delivered, this amount being net after hnnUnn- TV, farm, or ranch as Mr. Schomberg calls it. was formerly known as the Freeman place and is located one mile southeast of Mountain dale. Six years ago it was look ed uion as a "white elephant." those who attempted to run the place failing to make it pay even a fair living. Mr. Schomberg bought the farm for $2,210 about six years ago, stocked it with a nice lot of cattle, and is now sending 900 pounds of milk to the condenser every day. He has put energy and good business sense in his work and success is crowning his efforts. So much so that it would take $12,000 to buy the farm that six years ago was considered as of very little ac count. For Sale. Hero is the bct bargain in Hills.
