Today, the election; tomorrow,
the big horse show.
Remember that the polls open

This is Arbor Day, and besides
planting trees, quite a number of
aspirants to office will be plant
ed" also.
A vote cast for William A. Car
ter for railroad commissioner m
the primary today will be a vote
in the interest of cheaper freight
rates and better transportation
facilities.
If it is wrong to hold a county
office for more than two terms,
what do you think of the man
who has warmed the same chair
for twelve or fourteen years, and
is still asking for more? In this
case it would be quite proper to
give a new man a chance.

of its wonderful resources and
the great possibilities for its fut

most healthful and best section

The Independent does not take
uion itself the liberty of telling
any man how to vote; that mat
ter rests with the voter himself.
Still it is well to mention the fact
that some candidates for office
are better than others. An of
ficial who has worked faithfully,
saved the county money, and
proved entirely satisfactory to
the thousands of patrons of that
particular office, is certainly the
one to vote for. All the candi
dates running for office in Wash
ington county, with the excep
tion of one or two, are good men
and will make good officials, but
as we said before, some men
make better officials than others
and are of much more value to the
county. The thoughtful voter
needs no instruction as to where
to mark his X today.

a fair living. Mr. Schomberg

with a nice lot of cattle, and is
now sending 900 pounds of milk
