The-auditory wan well tilled and much Interest center ed in the proceedings. In the ab sence ol Pres. Wehrnug of the Board of Trade, See. Heidel called the meeting to order aud asked that It select a chairman. Dr. J. P. Tauiel. sie was nominated and urauiiunusly elected. L. A. L'ihf was choseu sec retary. Mr. Gradon of Portlaud rep resenting the Portlaoil-Hiilsdioro El ectric Motor Line, addre.sed the meeting to the effect that he wanted fu meet our people so that he eould personally explain the objects, pui poses and dmires of his company. To thnt end he had asked tlmt thu meet ing h" called. He stated that it Is the purpose of his company to build au electric railway line from Poit land to Hillshoro ami further that It will bet quipped Willi Ihe last o d bed aud finest vara th t lire turned oil', that ihey w ill carry passenger and light freight.. Hourly trips will lie made lo Portland commencing at 0 o'clock a. m. or earlier and having Poitlaud coming this ttt 11 o'cl:a'L p. m. Freqiieut stopping places will be designated along the line at least at every cross roiid. The price of passagu hud hi t yet been settled but it w ill he no more than half the pres ent price. Tiie company has se cured a frunchisu through the streets of Portland 'aud up the hill f eing the river. Assnrnuce had been giv en by Ihe court iu Washington coun ty thut a right of way would lie granted whenever the ri quest was of ficially pieseiited. While such., a right of way would be satisfactory to the company yet for many reasons a private right of way is preferable. Wherefore ho would ask Ihe people 01 Hillshoro and the county lo as sist iu getting a right ol way through private properly. A strip 20 feet wido outside of the CO feet county road would be ample unless it be at places where turnouts have to be constructed. Mr. Win. Nelson promptly said that (lie lino could go through his farm wherever it struck it without eoet to Ihe company, though he would prefer that it go over the end uext tiie county road. A gentleman present speaking for the Ilawthoiue estate saiil the road cimlil have a . free ri,'ht of way through that farm. J.'W. Shuto of Shute's bank proffered the same. Hon. W. I). Hare declared that the road could go through his holdings and if the buildings were iu the way ho would move them. On motion of Dr. F. A. Baliey, mayor, a committee of seven was voted, tho doctor at his own request to be left off, to secure a private right of way from the Multnomah county line westward through the county. The chair asked for'time in which to select and appoint the committee.- On Tuesday last the comuiilt:e was made out and appointed as fol lows: Dr, J. P. Tameisie, by vote of meeting, Jas. A. loibrie, V, M. Hei del, Ja. W. Sewell, John Sbule, Andrew Eglman and Col. Harry Haines, The msjorlty of the com initfss lives at or near Ilillsboro. Col.
