7 FOREST GROVE PRESS, FOREST GROVE, OREGON, THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 13, 1913. H. Maynard, of Olympia, was a guest of A. E. Hart over Sun day. Miss Esther Peterson, of Dil- ley, was shopping in the Grove Saturday. Mrs. Harper, of the Gales Creek section, was a Grove vis itor last Friday. J. H. Hubbard, of Portland, was visiting at the Barker home in the Grove this week. Mrs. C. A. Littler entertained this afternoon in honor of her cousin, Miss Carothers. Mr. M. J. Wilson and Mrs. Jel- lison of Amity, visited with Mrs. R. Stegleider over Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. L. R. Barker, of Firdale, Wash., are visiting Mr. Barker’s parents in this city. N orth P lains , O r . - A pres sure gasoline tank used in con nection with the lighting plant of the North Plains Hotel, exploded Friday night, doing considerable damage, and, but for the timely action of one of the guests, two persons would have been burned to death. This guest was the first person on the scene after the explosion, and two men were almost entirely aflame. He ripped open a sack of flour and poured | its contents over them and then smothered the fire in the wood work the same way. In all 500 pounds of flour were used for this purpose, which is credited j with saving the hotel and several valuable adjoining buildings. The injured men were sent to la hospital in Portland, and one is in a critical condition.
