Moscow and o th e r cities Socialists an d
revolutionists organized an ti-govern­
m ent dem onstrations and red flag pa­
rades, w hich, w ith th e p a trio tic m a n i­
festations, led to a n u m b er of conflicts
between “ red s” and “ w h ite s,” as th e
anti-governm ent and ro y a list factions
are respectively term ed . On the whole,
th e day passed m ore q u ie tly in R ussia

lisions betw een th e people and th e
troops are reported from K azan, K ish-
nieff an d P o ltav a, and tw o m en were

The law is p lain and com pre
hensive in its term s, and w ill operate
to suspend th e powers of d elin q u en t
corporations unless th e y com ply w ith

These 5,000 corporations referred to
a re concerns w hich have not in any
m anner com plied w ith th e corporation
license tax law . T h ere are 10,000 cor­
porations listed on tho books of the
secretary of sta te , and of these 3,000
have com plied w ith th e law.
Some
have already g ne o u t of existence, b u t
th e re rem ains on th e list a large n u m ­
ber of corporations w hich, though not
doing a very active business, hold

Because th e corporations have
not been doing an active business and
are m erely holding p ro perty, th e offi­
cers of th e com pany have neglected to
com ply w ith th e law, and thereby re
ta in th e ir corporate pow ers.

ies th a t are furnished to enlisted men
in o u r service are even now criticised
by some as being not only extravagant
b u t in ju rio u s in th e ir effect on men
whose real business is to fight and

and no lu x u ries; and th e discipline

now subjected are not likely to be re­
laxed in fu tu re.
