Comfortable, Home-Like and Reasonable On its 900 acres about a million pounds of hops are produced and this year $10,000 will be paid for picking the hops of the county, while many will go Into Yamhill county and bring back half as much more. This $15,000 goes where It does the most good and circulates the fastest, for if there is a nimble dollar It Is the one earned hoppicking— it goes into everybody’s hands and benefits the whole community as well as the men, women and children who find in the yards a pleasant outing. O f course the bop grower whose crop this year represents about $200,000, lets loose money too, but no other part o f It brightens business so much as the picking money. of admission at rate of $1.70 from Forest Grove. Sale dates September 15, IS, 22 and 25. Tickets sold at sta tions south of Fair Grounds will allow stopovers at that point, enabling hold ers to visit the Oregon State Fair. The Exposiiton will be held on Mult nomah Club Grounds and adjacent streets, and in addition to exhibits by merchants and manufacturers, .la bour's Circus with its many attractions has been secured. A special feature will be the grand spectacular ballet, “ When Knighthood Was in Flower," by sixty trained danc ers in gorgeous costumes, prepared for the occasion. CITY COUNCIL MEETING. City Council at its regular meeting Tuesday evening had Councilman W irtz as the only absentee. Treasurer Hoge's report showed $1,235.67 on hand, $1,711.94 having been received o f ex-Treasurer Hudson, $186.12 from lights, $192.38 water, $17.16 supplies sold, and $881.93 paid out on war rants, including $500 interest-bearing warrant taken up. Applications for light of Messrs, Mills, M iller and J. L. Austin were granted, and $139.79 of bills ordered paid: W. H. Lyda, lum ber, $72.32; H. T. Buxton, wood, $4.80; John Stribich, labor, $1; Frank A. Kuehn, labor, $1.25; P. W. Cronin, marshal. $12; J. C. Clark, recorder, $5.95; Portland General Electric Co., supplies, $13.17; W alter Hoge, treas urer, $16.55; Washington County News, official publications, $9; W ells Fargo, epress, 80c; The Bazar, sup plies, $2.95. Petition for sidewalk on Greenville road was ignored, as council thought all parties were willing to build if only some one would start in. Ordinance ordered drawn forbidding bicycle rid ing on sidewalks in front of the hotel blocks. The marshal, in answer to request for instructions, was ordered to en force strictly regulations governing use of water and light. Mr. Butler’s request for price on engine now lying idle In power house was refused, as council consider the property worth keeping In case it should be necessary to resume lighting the city at any time.
