THE NATIONAL CONVENTION. The long-awaited republican na tional platform is no longer subject for speculation, it speaks for it self, and it speaks with no uncertain sound. On every issue its expres sion is clear and pointed. The old- time policies are re-iterated and with justifiable pride the history of the past is pointed to as the best guarantee for the future. The nominees are strong and able ■ tn whose records, like their party's, will stand scrutiny. An account of the convention and the fall text of the platform will be found under the heading "Choice m i the Republicans" on an inside WA8TING WATER. A vast amount of water is being wasted. In sprinkling streets suf ficient to allay the dust is all that is necessary. All beyond that causes the city needless expense in pumping it into the tank and also makes hazaid in case of fire. Yesterday the tank was drained ¿own until only one-third full. Had there been fire only a small pcesurr would have been available uatil the engines could have been started, causing a dangerous delay. It is only necessary to call the attention of the water consumers to these things to have them reme died. Children should not be al- towed to sprinkle merely for pleas- The old soldier's re-union will be tore before our next issue. These veterans who have so nobly proved tfieir devotion to their country will always receive a hearty welcome in Forest Grove. Suitable prepara tions have been made for their com fort and entertainment during their stay, and now all that is needed (or aoccess is to have as many as possi ble of them avail themselves of this opportunity to renew army ac quaintances and recall war memo ries. Camping on the re-union grounds will lie very different though from the discomforts and hardships of the real camp. M r.
