The first of March several local logging camps were opened offering work to local loggers. Two or three small fires have bro ken out on the power line right of way but have been extinguished witij little damage being done. Elmer Anderson has been moved from Portland to the Veteran’s hos pital at Roseburg. His condition is not so favorable. Edward Bukovchik was home for the week end from the Zigzag CCC camp. His many friends wish him a hurried recovery. Little Dickie Telford is reported much improved from his recent eaj operation at the Portland sanitarium. Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Hoar entertain^ ed Mr. and Mis. J. Warren at their home last Wednesday evening. They enjoyed pinochle until a late hour. R. L. Sabin who as been quite ill in Portland has improved and mo. ved to his farm just north o f Boring. Miss Dorothy Richey of Salem spent the week end at the home of her parents Mr. and Mrs. Ray Richey. Vem Hoar who was recently cal led to Rapid City, South Dakota due to the illness of his daughter has re turned home and reports she is get ting along fine. He was taken to the Portland sanitarium by his fa ther and Dr. C. Don Platner served the wrist. His arm was put in a cast and he is now getting along fairly well. Teddy Mudrow was confined to his home with the measles over the week end. Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Van Wranken of Tierra Del Mar visited with the latters mother over the week end. Due to the fine weather several of the Dover strawberry growers are selling ru n n ers* s rapidly as they can dig them. A much needed rain was blown into Dover by a high wind. The ram was badly needed for spring grow ing. Jean Craft visited at the Jack Keck home Sunday. GARFIELD Clifford H. Dice who has been critl cally ill with blood poison in his left hand caused from a splinter is report, ed a little better. He is at the Hahne mann hospital in Portland. Mrs. Dice visited him last Wednesday and Sun day. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Gredvig of Scap- poose were visiting with relatives Sun day, also Mr. and Mrs. Walter Mau rer. Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Taylor attend ed the funeral of a relative of Mrs. Taylor’s at Laurel Oregon recently. Carl and Otto Hem icksen were home this weekend. Mrs. Hector Anders received word her oldest sisters husband, Clif ford Wade, o f Goldendale, Wash., died from a heart attack last Friday. His funeral was Tuesday. He wa* also the stepfather of Melvin Winners of the Porter district. Mrs. Hector Anders and children visited Monday at the home of Mrs. Oliver Bowman and famiy in Porter. Carl Davis is home from Corvallis enjoying his spring vacation. Mrs. Moore and son have moved back to Portland. Mrs. Irma Hooker is in Portland working for a short time. Miss Viola Henricksen visited for a short time last Friday eve at the home of her parents. Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Taylor and Mrs. Earl Gunter accompanied the Eastern Star members to Sandy last Tuesday eve. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Harmon anu Robert's mother and Mrs. Gredvig attended the S.D.A. meeting Sunday.
