T here are certain fundam ental
rules of heraldry which, if u nder­
stood generally, would indicate the
proper m ethod of displaying the Hag
of the U nited S tates o f A m erica. The
m atter becomes a very sim ple one if
it is kept in mind th at the Hag re p re­
sents the living country and is itself
considered as a living thing. The
union of the Hag is the honor point;
the right arm is the sword arm and
th erefore the point of danger and
hence the place of honor.
1. The Hag should be displayed
only from sunrise to sunset, or be­
tw een such hours as may be desig­
nated by p roper authority. It should
be hoisted briskly but should be low­
