VIOLA, Jai\. 31. — (Special) — Viola has a touch of winter just now, with the thermometer registering 22 above and twelve inches of snow on the ground and it is still falling. The P. T. A. met at the church Friday evening and there was a large crowd and a fine program was en joyed o f songs, music and readings. Mrs. Nelson, the school teacher, was present and told what was needed for the good o f the school. A num ber o f improvements are to be made in the building. Mrs. John Mattoon made a busi ness trip to Marshfield a few days ago. Miss Jaret Hamilton, who is a stu dent in Grant high school in Port land, spent the week end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Hamil ton. The P. T. A. is considering having a spelling contest. Anyone thinking he can spell better than Joe McComb is invited to come along and try it. The cream wagon from Logan, the meat wagon from Estacada and the faithful mail carrier were all on time Tuesday, despite the heavy snow. John Mattox, Walter Brewster and Bill Pelkey have gone into partner ship in the mill business, having pur chased an outfit over at Corvallis. They expect to go over there Mon day. They are all good mill men, and their friends wish them good luck. Mr. and Mrs. C. Conrow had their daughter Opal from Portland visiting them the past two weeks. The Elliott mill has shut down un til the weather improves.
