The members of the Estacada de bate squad are now b.isy preparing their debates. SAN D Y TR O PH Y WON BY K .S C H E F S T A D T Sandy’s loving cup was won by Karre Schefstadt at the Mt. Hood Ski club tourney Sunday, at Swim. Winter sports were “ on” with enthu siasm, despite the cold. Jack Greenwood covered himself with honors in making the opening address in it few well chosen words. Charley Caverly. another local man caused much fun by jumping in skirts— being introduced as an extra number. “ Mary" fell down— but so did some of the others! The Ad clul and Sickler’s tob grans were busy all day. LOSES VALUABLE DUG; SEARCH IYIAQE BY AMES Charlie Drake, caretaker o f Wal lace Smith’s fur farm up in the mountains, started down with his two dogs the* latter par* «-f last week to come to Estacada. He was five days making the trip, he reports, and when he reached Estacada he found that one o f his dogs was missing. It seems that this dog was ill to the other dog and he muzzled it, and the airdale is supposed to he somewhere out in the mountains muzzled. A. G. Ames and Mr. .Miller left ' Wednesday evening for the ranch to j find the dog, although theiy admit i ted that their chances o f success were small. Mr. Ames is the humane officer in Estacada vicinity, when a dog is ! concerned. Not long ago he picked 1 up a pool scrub cur that had been run over by an auto, took it to his ; garage, fed and cared for it a few* days until the animal recovered. Big E n ou g h F or Y o u If you were approached with a proposition that stood you to make $870 in the next few weeks, you would stop short and think, would you not? It does not make any dif ference how big you are. The big ger you are the more you will pause. You would hear the proposition. You would consider it. If at all reason able you would take it. Right now, in these times, when men are thinking of the necessity o f getting money— when men are trying to increase their income, $870 is a sum that is to be desired, no matter who you are. V o t e C oun t c A p pear The first vote count will appear next Friday and will include votes cast for publication up to Thurs day noon. Those who have already entered the election should put forth every effort to get some business in by next Thursday noon so that they will appear well up in the list. Others who have not yet started should im mediately send in their nominations, or come to the office, nominate themselves and receive Instructions in just how to get votes. Then go out and interview a few of their friends. Those who act without hes itation will naturally fare well in the gathering o f votes. If you are anx ious to start o ff with a good showing, strive to attain that end. The Clackamas County News “ Ev erybody Wins” campaign is really just opening. There ought to at least be as many active candidates as there are prizes. There ought to be more persons entering, who know what $870 represents, who have an idea of how really big it is in these days. The “ Everybody Wins” campaign is big enough to interest the very biggest men and women in this terri tory. But what has ben the result? Everybody has been expecting some one else in and no one gets in. Ev eryone expects that everyone else has a million subscriptions and no one has any of any consequence. W ork in Spare T im e Very litle is required o f you to win. An hour a day spent among the neighbors and friends for the Clackamas County News is suffi cient to win. You have the time. Really, your spare time— a few min utes o f an evening— is worth more to you these few weeks than any full-time employment you could get. Yet it is hut a side issue— n spare time proposition, nothing more. There is no sentiment about it. To earn money honorably is desirable. The prizes are going to be given away just as announced. The Clackamas County News will never back down on a proposition or a promise. But it would seem that more people who are just as live as other people in other communities, just as wide awake, certainly just as intelligent, would realize the oportunity to profit before it is too late. What is the matter? “ It’s the times,” says one man.” No it is not the times. Conditions are as they are and they are the same for everyone. The $2500 in prizes will positively be given away. It makes no difference what the times are. The “ times” do not win for you. (Continued on Page 8)
