SMITH— “ Thousand and F ifty, what did you pay fo r yours?” JONES__ “ Oh, I bought a Ford, only cost me Four F ifty." SMITH__“ What do you figure you saved buying that priced ca r?” JONES— “ Just Six Hundred to begin with.” SMITH__“ What about the up-keep, the cost in the end?” JONES__ “ It is generally conced d that the Ford ear has the great est second hand car value, but fo r the sake o f argument, let’s sup pose that your car and mine will depreciate the same each year, which according to average depreciation figures amounts to 35 per cent the first year, 15 per cent the second year and 10 per cent each year follow ng.” SMITH— “ What’s that got to do with it? ” JONES— “ Just a little late to tell you Smith. You’ve already bought. But here goes: You paid $1050 for your car. I paid $450 for mine, a difference of $000. That $000 invested in a more profitable proposition than you have already chosen would have brought you 0 to 8 per cent interest or $30.00 to $48.00 for twelve months.” SMITH— “ Sounds pretty g ood .’’ JONES__ “ Your car will depreciate 35 per cent o f the ariginal cost the first year, or $307.50. Granting, fo r the sake o f argument that mine will depreciate in the same ratio here is another difference o f $210 in my favor.” SMITH— “ That’s right.” JONES— “ That’s a total o f approximately $250. Now you’ll drive your car at least as much 881 do mine, and I figure I’ll drive mine 5,000 miles the first year.” THE UNIVERSAL CAR currinsville I tems Farming is in full swing these days. This should not be turned down at this time as it is in the interest o f every home in the community and it is a mistaken idea that those who do not get on now can do so when the line is built without paying for their share in the line, until six years have passed. A fter the six years are up any one can get on, but all should make this a community proposition and get t- gether and make it a go this time. Mrs. B. F. WANT UNO FOR SÄLE ADS SMITH— “ Yes.” JONES— “ Well then, divide that $250 by 5,000 miles and you will sec that it’s going to cost you 5 1, cents more per mile to drive your $1050 car than it does tooperate my $450 Ford, and I’ll go any place you will. Yes, and 1 will have much more com fort driv ing my Ford car through the city traffic than you will driving your big car, not to mention the easy time I will have parking my car compared to parking yours.” SMITH— “ I never thought o f all those things, Jones.” JONES— “ I did. And furthermore it’s useless to mention the ad ditional necessary expenses tooperate the cars. Your insurance will be about the same as mine. W e’ll say you will not spend any more for gas and oil than I will, and give you an even break on the tires, though it will cost you considerably more to replace those 32x4 cord tires than it will fo r me to replace my 30x3 V4 fabrics. And remember, Smith, the repairs are the most im portant expense o f up-keep. You’ll be paying $50 for a radiator when 1 am only paying $16.00; or $0.50 for a front fender while I will only pay $4.00.” SMITH— “ Say, Jones, where were you yesterday, ten minutes before I bbught this car?” JONES— " ‘round at BOB COOKE MOTOR CO. buying this Ford.” The ....
