They were accompanied home by their niece. Miss Eula Park. Elliott & Freeman have hot a new boiler and engine for their mill, which they are moving to a belt of timber west o f J. A. Stromgreen’s place. Julius Bogden and Eula Park were successful with their eighth grade examinations, having re ceived their diplomas this week. Elwood is booming with new cars, George Brown, Walter Cox and S. B. Brown being the proud owners. Miss "Nellie Vallen and nephew Orel Vallen, were dinner guests at the home o f Miss Vallen’s sis ter, Mrs. Hanna Ginther, Sun day. A. Miller, who had a piece o f steel removed from his eye last week, is doing as well as can be expected, having lost the sight o f the eye. Mr. Bishop and family have rented a house at Springwater where they moved Monday. Their little daughter Clydie is in the hospital at Portland where she is to undergo a third opera tion as soon as her strength will permit. Her condition is serious. Little Marie Downing o f Port land visited her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lankins, last week. SALVATION DOUGHNUTS It, was the doughnut which led the Salvation Army into fame with the doughboys of France. And it was “ Pa” and “ Ma” Burdick, the doughnut king and queen of the Salvation Army, who served overseas for two years, who introduced the dough nuts to the doughboys. Inci dentally they are back now aid ing in the campaign to secure sufficient funds for the Salvation Army to conduct its work in the United States for one year. Oregon has been asked to make its contribution June 22 to 30 and a state-wide organization o f bus iness men, prominent women and live-wire Elks are preparing to handle t lit* campaign.
