E ditor in Chief W alter Givens A dvertising Mgr. H arry C. Keid Freil B artholom ew Bouncer THE WEEKLY OOSTING Vol. 1 No. 11 Devoted to the stim ulation of civic and com m unity pride - the patronizing of home industries • and the boosting of the W. Givens Company, Incorporated. PIRIT Estacada, Or. February 15, 1917 Shall We Apologize We do rot believe that our friends will require us to apolo gize for our seeming neglect of their interests during the past weeks, for everyone knows that Cascade County has been upper most in our minds, and that the Editor in Chief of the Boosting Spirit has been devoting his en tire time to this matter. Our on ly apology is that it has been our custom to have a part in all mat ters of public nature, and it is for this reason that we have been so dilig’e nt in the fight for Cascade County. Editor’s Gossip Our good friends in George have discovered, that it pays to buy in quantities, and have ask ed us for quotations on grass seeds in large quantities, which will mean a considerable saving to them. We commend their progressiveness. If we might guess withont presuming, we would say that this idea origi nated in the fertile brain of H. Joyner, the newly elected presi dent of the George Social & Commercial Club. We were glad to see so many of our friends from Douglass Ridge at the jollification meet ing at the pavilion last Saturday evening. Here’s hoping that the Honorable County Court will soon improve the m u c h discussed Douglass Hill so that our friends from Douglass Ridge may get in to Estacada more frequently. At the lime of going to press every rural line is humming with talk of the Cheese Factory meet ing tonight. We h o p e next week to be able to chronicle a successful meeting. Its up to the dairymen of this community. Another Live Stock Shipment Pota o Prices vs High Cost of Living On Wednesday of this week we shipped another mixed car of live stock for which we paid to the farmers of this community ap proximately $1700, car consisting of cattle, hogs and sheep. We hope to be able to make another shipment in two weeks, and if you have anything in prospect for this time, notify us at the earliest convenient date. While we are not given to prophecy, we do state that as we see the hog maket for the future hogs will be extremely high throughout this entire year, and we believe that the farmer who is planning for a good run of hogs for this year will profit by so do ing. We prophesied during the Fall months that we would pay as high as 11 cents for hogs at Estacada during the month of February, and this prophecy has been more than realized. Just take our tip for once, and get in to the live stock game. In the early Fall when we be gan buying potatoes we predict ed $2.00 potatoes in Estacada by February 1st. At the time of going to press we are paying $3.00 per hundred for No. 1 po tatoes. We do not know how high the market may go, but it is our opinion that the top has almost been reached. If you have potatoes which you expect to sell at the highest price, we would advise you to keep ver^’ closely in touch with us from now on as there is liable to be a de cided drop in the market, as there has been in other Spring months. By listing with us po tatoes which you may have for sale, we will be in a position to protect you against a sudden decline. ____ Its Garden Time , The Spring days make all cl us feel that we would like to get back to Na tu re , and within a few days the amateur gar deners as well as the _ professional will kbe nursing their blistered hands and lame backs incidental to the back-yard gar den. Of course we commend this thriftiness, and as a means of aiding we merely suggest that we are headquarters for all var ieties of garden and field seeds, both in packages and in bulk. As an inducement for the next two weeks we will give absolute ly free one 5 cent package of garden o r flower seeds with every 50 cent purchase in our grocery department. Why Not Buy Where You Sell It is not always a matter of economy in making your pur chases to be deceived by some special feature in some one com modity which is offered at a re- diculousiy low price. We think that you will find that as a gen eral rule our prices are not only as low as the lowest, quality of course being considered, but that you are able to dispose of any thing you may have in the pro duce line, as we are daily buying hundreds of dollars worth of poultry, eggs, potatoes, onions, beans, livestock, grains, etc., and while we are always glad to pay cash for any surplus which you may have to sell, we can pay you a correspondingly higher price in exchange for groceries, flour and feed from the store. We believe in reciprocity. Don’t you? Remember our 2 % Cash Discount tickets are redeemable at any time. We believe that a satisfied customer is the best advertisement.
