F R E E LAND A T R O S E B U R G . Eleven I n s p e c t o r s U n ab le to Find D is e a s e d Anim als in S t a t e . Pendleton.—F o r two weeks, eleven inspectors under th e direction or Dr. s. W. McClure, of the Feder al Bureau of Animal Ind u stry , have been search ing the flocks of Oregon for trace of scabies or other sheep diseases, bu t so f a r they have not been successful. This shows th a t the cam paign of eradication which was in au g u rated less t h a n two y ears ago was entirely sa tis factory , and Loth l)r. McClure, who is the head ot the anim al in dustry iu the Northwest, an d S t a t e Sheep Inspector L ytle ar e ue- lighted with tho showing made. Though not a single diseased sheep has been found so far, the work of in spection will bo continued until every band in the s t a te has been subjected to, in examination . I t is now believed, however, t h a t no scabby sheep will be found, though early in the summer there were a few isolated cases in L ak e and Douglas counties. Theso wero treated as soon as discovered. Though Oregon sheep wero prob ably the worst infested with scabies of an y s t a t e in the Union two years ago, Dr. McClure state d a t t h a t tim e t h a t ho would clean up th o sheep of tho sta te within two years, an d th is inspection seems to indicate t h a t ho has k ep t his promise. P endleton.— U m atilla c o u n t y ’s tax roll, j u st completed b y Assessor Stra in shows th e total wealth of the county to bo a little more th an $25,000,000. This is about $16,000,000 less than the total valuation last year, due to the fact t h a t tho assessment was made on a valuation of betw een 60 and 70 per cent of t h a t of last year. In 1907 the tax roll showed t h e total valuation of tax ab le pro perty in Umatilla county to be second only to the county of Mult nomah. This y ear it ran k s as third.
