Pendleton.—F o r two weeks, eleven
inspectors under th e direction or Dr.
s. W. McClure, of the Feder al Bureau
of Animal Ind u stry , have been search
ing the flocks of Oregon for trace of
scabies or other sheep diseases, bu t so
f a r they have not been successful. This
shows th a t the cam paign of eradication
which was in au g u rated less t h a n two

Loth l)r. McClure, who is the head ot
the anim al in dustry iu the Northwest,
an d S t a t e Sheep Inspector L ytle ar e ue-

Though not a single diseased sheep
has been found so far, the work of in
spection will bo continued until every
band in the s t a te has been subjected to,
in examination . I t is now believed,
however, t h a t no scabby sheep will be
found, though early in the summer there
were a few isolated cases in L ak e and
Douglas counties. Theso wero treated
as soon as discovered.
Though Oregon sheep wero prob ably
the worst infested with scabies of an y

McClure state d a t t h a t tim e t h a t ho
would clean up th o sheep of tho sta te

shows th e total wealth of the county

This is about $16,000,000 less than the

fact t h a t tho assessment was made on
a valuation of betw een 60 and 70 per
cent of t h a t of last year. In 1907 the
