The Wgh school girls arc taking a great Interest In basketball this year. About fifty girla have signed up for the class teams, according to Miss Alberta MeMonles, in structor of girls' physical educa tion. Twenty-four sophomores, sixteen seniors, and twelve juniors reported for practice last Thurs day night. ' Each class has elected a mana ger for Its team. They are: Elinor Bennle for the seniors, Reba Brogden for the juniors, and Esther McDanlels for the sopho mores. - After the regular class schedule has been played out, a school team will be chosen, which will compete with teams from other eoiuola. j The members of the girla' E club are planning to gather mistletoe ana Christmas trees to a-11 at the Eugene public market, December iy. Tney will also sell candy in the halls of the high school. The money thus earned will go into the club treasury. The football team and Coach R. G. Brown, who ended the high school season Thanksgiving day at Tillamook with a victory of 6 to 0, were guests at a banquet given by, the members of the HI -Y club at 6:30 at the Y. M. C, A. build In ff, Wednesday evening. . Speakers for the event were Reverend J. Franklin Haas, of the First Methodist church, and P. E. Chrlstenson, principal. At a meeting of the Mountaineers, the boy's Camp Cookery club, Thurs day Ray Jeffries was elected sec retary treasurer, following the re signation of George Pratt. A mo tion was made, and carried .to abolish the dues of BO cents per month, and to tax when necessary for parties and picnic., Veldna Hill was elected to memhersh'p in the Ramblers, the clrl's Camp Cookery club, sine. ' Each member present was asked to state the name of his favorite book and give his reasons for tne choice. The members of the "E'1 club will present a forty minute pro gram consisting of vaudeville acts t noon. December 1 1. In the gymnasium. The committee in charge of tho entertainment ts Russell Stewrrt. cha'rman, Donald Davis, and Dallas Hlestand. The admission Is ten cents. The piofits will go to help settle stand ing debts and to pay for an initia tion of new members. By holding pastry sales in the hall at noon the club has helped to reduce the price of the tickets for the out-of-town football games, thereby enabling more students to attend tho contests. Two of Tarkington's cleverest plays- will- be presented by . the dramatic club of the school. They are "The Intimate Strangers," a three-act comedy and .'The Ghost Story-" n one-act farce which will i precede the main play of the eve ning.--The casts are rehearsing regularly under the able direction of Mrs. Norman Christie, dramatic coach, and this annual club enter tainment promises to be one of the best.' i The date of performance will be announced later. The slides were secured from the ex tension division of the University of Oregon. The students are making nn ex tensive study of birds. Each stu dent is required to observe com mon birds and make a bird calen dar. The third year English students. under the direction of Mrs. Ruth Pierce Rugh. had a unique review ot work covered so far In litera ture. This work Included all noted authors up to the latter part of the eighteenth century. The students represented vari ous writers who were supposed to have met together In a houseboat on the River Styx, and discussed the works and style of each other freely. EI wood Harnden, a sen ior, presided at this conference. Class periods on Thursday and Friday were used for the meeting. Some of the characters imper sonated were Milton. Shakespeare. Johnson, Johnson, Bunyan, Bacon, Addition and Steele, Swift, Pope and Dry den. Each student im personated the character he or she chose, so well, that the audience could readily recognixe the literary titles. A girl reserve vesper service will be held this afternoon at 3:30 In the Central Presbyterian church. This idea Is rather em harassing to some of the girls vho are slightly plump but each Is try ing to get some pointers on how to reduce.
