McNary." Word received Wednesday by Prof. H. 8. Tut tie, secretary of the Eugene Council for Prevention gf War from the other Oregon senator. Frederick Stelwer, did not state whether or not he would support the Brland-Keilogg pact but did state he favored "efforts of the administration to bring about execution of every proposal which will tend to make war less probable." His message was as follows: "Answering your correspondence, do not hesitate to advise I shall sup port efforts of administration to bring about execution of every proposal, which will tend to make war lets probable. There are many of us who believe In adeouate national defense, but are also militantly for peace. There are 85 ex-iorv.ee men In con gress and although -all these men did not serve on the battle front many did and those who know the horrors of war will, I am sure, give most earnest support to every Intelligent step In the direction of peace. Very glad to have your views In this regard." Numerous other organisations of the city and county have sent tele grams urging support of the peace treaty. Mr. Keller, whose head quarters are In Portland, was a vim tor at the Eugene police station Wednesday. While most of the car thefts are mads by joyriders, he said, practically all major crimes are committed by persons using stolen cars to go to and from the scene of the crime.
