R- Linn. Announcement that Mr. Russell is entering the car dealer business in Eugene, recalls an interesting bit of history in connection with the lines of care he has sold here. Beginning with the H. J. Bringle Motor company, when that firm took the Jewett and Paige agencies here, Mr. Russell has been with the same organization of which he is now the head. H. J. Bringle, who has also been closely connected with the organiz ation -throughout its history, opened the new building at Tenth avenue and Olive street about a year and a half ago, shortly after taking the Hup mobile agency formerly held by the Smith and Melscl firm on Pearl Btreet. The Bringle company moved later to Seventh and Oak street where it is now located and Mr. Linn bought out the Bringle interests then. Mr. Linn continued with the two lines until the recent announcement. . Mr. Russell for the present will handle only the Graham Paige car. During the time that this firm has been organized the Jewett car has dropped out of manufacture and the chief product sold was the Paige and the Hupmobile. A short time ago a merger of interests made the new name, Graham-Paige. The motor usually outlasts the body in service for the simple reason that.imiuedlate attention is paid to it when it shows the least sign of balk ing. A squeuky or muddy body, on the other hand, can be' tolerated without handicapping the operation of the car. Eventually, however, the squeaks and dirt leave permanent marks on i the car, rattling becomes an everyday affair and the automobile is worth much less than one to which atten tion has been paid. Yet care of the body is easier than attention to the engine. It requires only occasional checking of bolts and other parts. And it demands only a matter of cleanliness on the part of the owner. Squeuka come from such insignifi cant causes as glazed contact points between doors and pillars, between hood and lacing, at the "hood clamps and at the door lock. All they need is slight lubrication, a drop of oil in the lock, or a touch of grease along the contact edges' Slight rattles come from' parts loosened by ' the 1 inevitable1 vibration of the car, and jars over rough pavo ments. The bumpers can thus be loosened enough to rattle disturbing ly. Tbo trimmings inside the car can become loose and squeak.
