Petitions out on Two Referendums Petitions were circulated In Eugene today for the referendum election on the proposed diversion of 10 per, cent of the fees, licensee, including the money received from the sale of bunt ing and fishing licenses, into the gen eral fund of the state, and the pro posed taxation on cigars, cigarettes, tobaccos and other smokers' supplies. , The petitions were signed this morning by a number of members of the Lane County Sportsmen's asso ciation, in protest to the use of game I cene money for other purposes than the ptypagation anil protection of Oregon wild life. Itemoval of Ben Dorris from the game commission added fuel to tbe fire in local sports men's camps, and the association has promised the "petition shavers" full cooperation in tbe matter of getting names for the referendum on diver- sion of game money, it is announced by officers of the association. Analysis of the gss from the well of the Guaranty Oil company at City Outlook has been made by the de partment of chemistry of the Univer sity nf uregon under tbe direction of Professor I'. L. Shinn of the chemi cal department facility. ' The following statement conrng from Professor Shinn was given out today hy 1-r. Oavd Eugene Olson, of the Guaranty Oil company: "The results of the examination of the gas do not justify us in making any statement one way or the other hs regards the probability or .improb ability of striking oil in this well. Tbe analysis does not prove that oil may not he found by further drilling." Dr. Olson also today showed an af fidavit of Carloe Beeves, driller at the well here, which states that in his 1T years' experience in the oil industry be has positive personal knowledge of hundreds of wells brought in as large prooucej-a, evnu lununii, ..-.. ..-,!. under such gas as is now flowing at the well here. The driller stottt in the affidavit that he was superintend ent of tbe Melital Oil company in the Midway feld of Kern county. Cal., and that Well 23 of that company sub itantiates tbe statements concerning the Eugene showing. Von Hindenburg Accepts Office BERLIN, April 30. The three affiliated clubs of Eu gene and club women throughout th4 state are anticipating with great in terest thn annual convention of the Oregon Federation of Women's clubs which Is to be held in Ma rnh field, June 1, 2, 3, and 4. The Fortnightly club, the Mon day Book club, and the Women's leag ue of the University of Oregon are thn three groups In Eugene affiliated w ith the state .organisation. Neither of the three Eugene clubs haa as yet selected Its delegates or made more definite plans for the convention. Mrs. Louis E. Bean of Eugene Is second vice-president of the stnte group, and would be n delegate to the convention by virtue of her office as would Mrs, Edwin L, Knapp, newly elected president of tho Monday Book club, Mra. E. F. Carleton, president of Fortnightly club, nnd Miss Anna IrWitt, president of the university women's league.
