I I rr i t 5 S j ii .I ' V if r. , Page Eight THE EUGENE GUARD MURAL LANDSCAPE A decorative mural landscape, the Work of Hazel I), Hordera, a senior iu the school of architecture und ullicd arts, was hung iu the lounge of tbe new cchool of music auditorium as a feature of the dedication of the music building. 'Die mural was admired by hundreds of visitors who came to io spect the music auditorium and liijtm to the dedicatory program. The lounge adjoins both the music auditorium and the Hchool of music studio building, serving as a con necting unit between tbe two. Jt is a tentefully furnished room and is used for small receptions, the entertain ment of visiting artists, and an as sembly and meeting place for student . groups. .Miss Borders' mural has been pmcf d above tbe fireplace, and be cause it was executed particularly for tin; room, serves "as a jewel in a nec tiiii,'." . .Mi. -B Borders chose the color scheme and the type of landscape tlmt seemed to fit the problem. She took into consideration the nature of the room, its coloring, and the use to which it is put. The little group of dancing figures in the picture and a musician playing relate the mural to the school of music, Mies Borders worked under the direction of X. B. Zane, assistant professor in the school of architecture and allied arts. The frame for the picture was de signed in the normal arts studio at the university and wan made by a Kugenc planing mill. Every part of the pic ture, therefore, was tbe product of local artists and craftsmen. members of tbe Odd Fellows to attend the annual grand lodge session of Oregon to be held at Ashland starting Wednesday, May 20, according to of ficers of tbe Spencer Butte lodge. The Odd Fellows band of this city will be the official musical organization for the convention and the band will leave May 1U by train for the south, ac cording to present plans. A lorjje number - of the delegates and other members of the order from here will make the trip to tbe convention city by automobile, (t is announced. At a dinner given at Delta Gamma bouse the past week-end Miss Cleo Base announced her engagement to Andrew Koerner, of Portland. The announcement was made at the same time at Kappa Sigma house by Mr. Koerner. Miss Base is a senior in the university. Mr. Koerner Is a graduate of Stanford, and at present is practic ing law in Portland. The wadding is to take place in June. Applications Filed For Soldier Loan Several applications from reteranu of the Spanish-American war for the state soldier loan have been filed, ac-1 cording to Colonel J. M. Williams, at torney for the state bonus board in j Lane county. The provisions of tbe 1 state loan iuw entitling tbe Spani.h n-ur veterans to participate do not i take effect until May 2H but many are making early application in order to establish their eligibility. World war veterans who re ceived the cash bonus and who desire to return this and accept the loan are aUo expected soon to make applica tion.
