THE EUGENE GUARD
MURAL LANDSCAPE
A decorative mural landscape, the
Work of Hazel I), Hordera, a senior iu
the school of architecture und ullicd
arts, was hung iu the lounge of tbe
new cchool of music auditorium as a
feature of the dedication of the music
building. 'Die mural was admired by
hundreds of visitors who came to io
spect the music auditorium and liijtm
to the dedicatory program.
The lounge adjoins both the music
auditorium and the Hchool of music
studio building, serving as a con
necting unit between tbe two. Jt is a
tentefully furnished room and is used
for small receptions, the entertain
ment of visiting artists, and an as
sembly and meeting place for student
. groups. .Miss Borders' mural has been
pmcf d above tbe fireplace, and be
cause it was executed particularly for
tin; room, serves "as a jewel in a nec
tiiii,'." . .Mi. -B Borders chose the color
scheme and the type of landscape
tlmt seemed to fit the problem. She
took into consideration the nature of
the room, its coloring, and the use to
which it is put. The little group of
dancing figures in the picture and a
musician playing relate the mural to
the school of music, Mies Borders
worked under the direction of X. B.
Zane, assistant professor in the school
of architecture and allied arts.
The frame for the picture was de
signed in the normal arts studio at the
university and wan made by a Kugenc
planing mill. Every part of the pic
ture, therefore, was tbe product of
local artists and craftsmen.
