CP) Uy a vote of 2S4 to 05 the Dickinson cooperative marketing bill was pass ed today by the house, after it had been approved as a substitute for the Ilnugeu measure reported by the agri cultural committee. The substitute measure which Mr. Haugen declared . would nullify the conference recommendations of the subject, d ffers from the Capper lluiigen bill principally by eliminat ing the requirement for government auditing, licensing and regulation. As approved yesterday, the Dickinson proposal also carries an amendment increasing applications for the de partment of agriculture and broaden ing, its scope of actfvities under the Cnppcr-Yolntcad act. The measure approved as'a substi tute for the Ilnugeu proposal repos ed by the agricultural committee as a bill carrying out the recommendations of the president's agricultural com mission now goes to the senate with its fate problematical. Mr. Dickinson, predicting enact ment of the measure into law, said he had assurance that Senator Mc Nary, republican, Oregon, would lead u fight for favorable senate action and that Chairman Norris of this .sen ate agricultural committee was not inclined to be hostile to it. The plants of the Booth-Kelly are still operated on tJie five-day a week basis and this will continue until produc tion is brought within a reasonable relation with present (iemand, the manager states. Contracts for 50,000 pounds of Dane county hops at 17 cents per pound have been closed between the John Seavey Hop Island ranch east of Springfield and Ithodes and Jackson of London, England. The hops are to be .delivered on the cars at Spring field between October 1, 105 and December 1, 1015, according to the contract filed for record today at the office of the county clerk. This is the largest hop order plac ed in Lane county in some time and it is believed to be the first large contract on the present year's crop, according o the local men Interested In the Jiop business. The Seavey ranch comprises 2300 acres, and has SO acres in cluster hops. The contract with the English fy-in was signed by John Seavey and Irl Stewart. That David John Jones, principal of the Eugene high school, will he the new superintendent of schools in Eugene and that P. E. Christcnsen, now head of the history department of the high school, will succeed Mr. Jones as head of that Institution, is the plan to be considered hy the school hoard, according to unofficial information today.
