Law Student Honored Ernest Salt a, b graduate of Frank lin high school of 1'ortlnnd, who reg istered nt the University of Oregon this term ns a prc-law student, is the third university student to receive a Hustler scholarship. At tho time ho received the prize he wns attending high school ami was the president of the Portland Newsboys' association. Ho was the first high school student to get the award. The scholarships are derived from profits of the sale and advertising in the Hustler, a 01 page magazine, which is .tho official organ of Portland newsboys. It is edited by Sam Wilderman, university law student and sports writer for The Guard. Schoolhouse Closed Because of an epidemic of scarlet fever in the neighborhood, tho Frank lin district schoolhouse has been clos ed, announces K. J. Moore, county srhool superintendent. Dr. Scth M. Kerron, county physician, visited Franklin yesterday and discovered three or four cases of the disease. Tho school was ordered shut down and fumigated. Mr. Jen kins is planning on shipping his household goods to Eugene, and may make his home in Lane county. 16 Dogs Licensed Since the passage of tho now dog license ordinance by the city council, 10 owners of dogs have bought li censes in tho city recorder's office, it was announced today. Owners will have the remainder of tho week to obtain their permits, and on February 1 the dog catcher will be instructed to impound all animals not properly licensed. Coma from Seattle Mr. and Mrs. C- E. Hunt returned the first of the week by automobile from Seattle. Accompanying them for a visit in Eugene was Mrs. II. P. Mc Connell, aunt of Mrs. Hunt.
