There is trouble in the air as a result of the tie in the Eugene-Sa-lem-Albany division of the state High school debating league last Fri day night. The dlfficutly is over the manner In which the championship may be decided. Albany says, by lot tery, Salem wants to do anything ex cept debate on the same question, but Eugene says the only fair thing to do is to debate again on the ques tion. Eugene has sent a formal challenge to Albany and Salem to meet them here on any fair terms on executive oemmittee. It seems that after the debate here last week, Eugene proposed to Salem and Albany that the question be debated over again by the same teams, but have the negative teams stay at home and the affirmative go away. Albany said no, that they wanted to draw for the place and that they positively would not de bate this question again if they had to back oat of the league. Salem said that it should b'e left to the executive committee but that they preferred to debate on some other question and would not consider this one. Den Huntington, the coach of the Eugene team Interviewed various members of the executive committee and the secretary of the league. They agreed with him that the only fair way to settle the deadlock would be to debate again on the same ques tion by the same teams. As a result Tuesday, he sent, for the Eugene teams, the following challenge to Sa lem, and a duplicate to Albany, neither of which lias been answered .lan. IS, 1910. "Prin. Robert la. Kirk, Salem, Or. "We the undersigned persons of the E. H. S., concerned In debate, challenge your school to debate on Monday, January 24, to decide the tie that occurred last Friday. "Failure to accept the challenge or to give us an early answer will be considered by us as indicating that you hesitate to contest or compete with us, to determine the real win ner of this triangle on the question. "We are willing to meet you and Albany on any terms that are fair to all concerned. We concede noth ing, we are ready to debate and con sider that this is the only Just way of determining the winner of the triangle. Accept our challenge or concede us the championship." The fact that neither Salem Sa lem nor Albany have answered, indi cates that they wish to consider It a draw. liaski-tlmll Team to Albany. The High school basketball team went to Albany this afternoon to play the Alco club there tonight. The final examinations at the High school begin next Wednesday, January 26. TO SHOW MACHINERY The Morach Garage has a novel method of displaying their machines by showing the working parts of a real machine Jusl :i they are assem bled In the tactory. A White Steam er has been stripped of Its body and everything but just the frame and the working parts on the four wheels. The top has been remove from the gear case and nearly every working part is in plain sight. This is much better than a cratalogue that shows fancy pictures of the parts that may he photographed and may not. Their shipment of 1910 Whites, including a White gasoline car, left the eaost some thirty days ago but has been held up somewhere in transit. The snow storms have de layed all freight from tho east.
