L. Clark. Coburg George A. Drtuy. FRIDAY, JAN. 21, 1910. NloAlt.MHA The Tyrant's driven from his plaee, who ground a wearied na tion's race! Complete disastrous was his fall, this tuaii of unex ampled gall. He's gum. toward that lltubo where unseated Tyrants paw the air, and wring their teeth and gnash their eyes, and utter loud, heartrending cries. Poor Nlearngua's ehalr of stnte most always feels some Tyrant's weight; no sooner does one Tyrant chase than t'other Tyrant takes Ills place; confounded by the peo ples' wrath, the fleeing despots wear a path, to that dim l.lmho In the West, ODO at a time, or six abreast. And every time a Tyrant falls, wo hear the peoplM1 Joyous calls: "At last we're free! Hooray! Kerwhoop! The frowning Tyrant's lu the soup. His place is taken by a gent who won't oppress us worth a cent! Now sweet contentment shall abide along the whole blamed countryside; we'll use our swords In building schools, we'll use our guns to prod the mules!" And Nicaragua fairly reeks with peace for half u dozen weeks, and then the warlike Colonel Ilrug up and springs the Tyrant gug, and ull the peeople leave their chores, to chase the despot out of doors! WALT MASON. Copyright, 1909, by George Matthew Adams. The Daily Guard has 2675 regular subscribers of which 75 are free copies going- to exchanges and foreign advertisers under contract, making a net total paid circulation of 2600. The Guard has no other free list, and never cuts its subscription price in order to hold or gain circulation. This gives the paper circu lation quality, which is more essential than quantity although it has both and leads any competitor in the field by many hundreds. The subscribers the advertiser most desires to reach are those who are willing and able to pay for a paper at the regular price, and therefore represent the best buying element-in a community. Counting five readers to each sub scriber the Guard has a regular family of readers numbering 13,375, and its weekly edition of 1,800 has 9,000 more, the weekly circulation being practically net, as there are no ex changes on its list. Eighty per cent of both daily and weekly subscribers are paid in advance and combined they have 22,375 regular readers. Any advertisers will be given every opcor tunity to verify their figures by calling at our business office. The Guard haB no circulation secrets, and makes no claim that Its press run and subscription lists will not substantiate, CITY NEWS The Oregon Tradesman says of the meeting of the retail grocers of the stato in Eugene next week: "We are confident th.it the Eugene merchants and citizens will be fully able to care for the businoss guests of the city. Preparations have been made to tako care of the visitors, and the arrangements are said to bo adequate and complete. The Oregon Tradesman will havo its representatives present, among the others, and it is practically settled that the delegation from Portland will be a good-sized one. We urgo our readers to do so. It will benefit good-sized one. We urge our readers to go if they can arrange to do so. It will benefit them and the state association greatly."
